I am an existential therapist which means I am listening in particular for the ways you may be struggling with meaning-making in your life and with issues related to grief, loss and overwhelm. I work from an attachment-based & psychoanalytic framework. These can feel like loaded terms, but often this means we will be discussing ways early relationships - both attachment and mis-attunements (experiences of neglect or trauma) affect your current ability to relate. Sessions will feel conversational and will often involve humor despite the heavy content woven in. I will ask questions to help you recognize themes in your experience.
Conventional therapy is often too quick to categorize individuals' concerns and symptoms solely as deficiencies in personal psychology. My philosophy and commitment is to also weigh the social and political aspects of your experience. Our symptoms (overwhelm, addiction, depression) must be addressed seriously, but we have to acknowledge the contributions
of a persons' full context (political setting, cultural background, race, gender, workplace stressors, sexuality, disability-status, attachment history, and class), in the logical survival responses we cultivate.
