On the good days, you are unsure if you really need any help. You think it will pass. But on the difficult days, you find yourself here. You are tired and overwhelmed. Your mood is low, and your patience is short. Your relationships feel fragile, and your resilience is waning. Adding one more to-do item to your list seems impossible. Maybe even indulgent. You can ignore your struggle, and maybe tomorrow will be a better day. Or, you can find yourself the support you deserve and know that it will be. You do not have to do this alone.

For almost 20 years, I have worked with a wide variety of individuals, couples and groups from a diverse range of socioeconomic, cultural and sexually diverse backgrounds to help empower them to overcome misaligned belief systems that were blocking their mental health, their sense of harmony and well-being. My psychotherapy and counselling work are primarily Adlerian based and incorporates an eclectic array of cognitive, psychodynamic, experiential, somatic and evidence-based therapies.

My practice includes a collaborative approach alongside therapies such as dialectical behaviour therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behaviour therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Working with clients experiencing hopelessness, emptiness, self-destructive behaviours, intense emotions, unstable relationships, and troubles communicating effectively in their interpersonal relationships constitutes much of my background in this field.

There is a Sioux Indian saying: The longest journey you will make in your life is from your head to your heart. I would be honoured to be part of that journey with you. Understanding the stigma often associated with seeking help, I strive to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where you feel understood and supported. Everyone has the capability to do great things and become the best version of themselves as defined by themselves. I believe that therapy is a strength, not a weakness, and I encourage everyone to take proactive steps towards their mental health journey.

My online therapy services offer support without judgment for men seeking a more meaningful and connected life. We are all evolving! People usually come to see me because a crisis has happened. The origin of the word crisis means turning point. If you are experiencing a turning point in your life I can help you navigate. Sometimes when a crisis hits we find it hard to process what is happening because we are full of the emotional and mental confusion. Therapy helps to unravel the confusion so you can awaken to the awareness that comes with the turning point. Growing in awareness can create a whole new perspective.

I believe that all people harbour significant potential for intimacy and compassion towards themselves and others. Grief, betrayal, trauma, stress, and abuse are becoming part of everyday reality. Without support, they may lead to helplessness, depression, anxiety, addictions, or unhelpful coping strategies that inhibit their true potential. Over the past two decades of my professional career and my training in psychotherapy, I learned that the best path forward comes from within. Healing becomes within reach with the help of a trained professional and confidant who can listen, relate, and gently guide you as you navigate forward.

My work integrates: Mindfulness work, Gestalt therapy (engaging in an experiential, relational and present-centered approach), EFT Tapping (releasing unhealthy habits/patterns, fears/limiting belief), Havening Techniques (creating a safe haven for delinking encoded traumatic memories caused by stressful events and building more resilience).
People seek change and choose to work with a therapist for a variety of reasons. It could be that you are struggling with making an important decision, experiencing difficulties in your personal/family/work relationships, or are easily overcome by stress, worry or anxiety in a world that is increasingly putting demands on your time and attention. Chances are you are feeling stuck in some way and want a fuller, richer, more satisfying life. As a Registered Psychotherapist, I specialize in working with Highly Sensitive adults (HSPs) who wish to engage in a creative, present-centered, neuroscience-informed bodymind approach to therapy.

Gestalt Counsellors

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behaviour, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
