I am a Registered Psychotherapist practising in Downtown Toronto, with offices in the Junction, the Annex, and Little Italy. My practice centres on anxiety, panic, and OCD, as well as difficulties with self-worth. Where symptoms are acute or impairing, I provide structured, evidence-based intervention, including CBT and ERP. For many clients, however, symptom reduction is only one aim of treatment. They also seek to understand why they feel and respond as they do. This is the focus of psychodynamic psychotherapy, my primary orientation, an approach concerned with the deeper roots of symptoms.

We refer to these roots as deeper because they are often unconscious and form early. Consider a perfectionist who finds criticism intolerable. The trait has produced success, yet it is also limiting. They are hard on others as well as themselves, and find little comfort in achievement. They know how criticism feels. Why it feels that way is less clear.

A closer look may reveal that criticism threatens a fragile sense of worth, and that the perfectionism defends against an old conviction that acceptance must be earned. Our work is to locate these beliefs and feelings, and the experiences behind them, and work them through in the therapeutic relationship, where meaningful change can follow.

My primary modality is psychodynamic psychotherapy. In early sessions we map what brought you in and the history around it. From there, we track the recurring emotional and relational patterns shaping your present difficulties, and understanding these is what makes change possible. When symptoms call for direct, structured intervention, I use CBT and ERP, often as a focused course within the work.
