You may have learned that closeness in relationships wasn’t safe, consistent, or reliable. Or you may have been hurt by people you trusted. These experiences influence how we relate with ourselves and others, which can show up as feeling anxious, shut down, over-responsible, no boundaries, or stuck in relationship patterns. You may desire security and clarity in relationships, as well as deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself. To do this, we would work together to unpack stuck relational patterns to develop a secure sense of self that translates into how we show up in relationships with ourselves and others.
We would explore stuck patterns through understanding thought processes, create connections with your emotions to express them safely, and get in touch with your body. Emphasis would be on emotional safety, collaboration, and nervous system regulation. We would focus on how your system learnt to survive relational pain and how to build safer ways of relate.
As a clinical supervisor, my focus is on the person of the therapist, as much as their clinical skills because who we are influences how we show up in the therapeutic space. I take on a relational style; so, my hope is to transition from a guide to a companion in the supervisory relationship to facilitate and encourage independence in supervisees.
