My main approach is feminist therapy, which boils down to three things: 1) You are the expert on your experiences; 2) The systems we live in impact our experiences, and their impact on us informs our mental health; and, 3) I actively interrogate my whiteness, internalized white supremacy, and work to de-centre whiteness both professional and personally.
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with a general private practice in north Edmonton. I have a strong interest in supporting folks who are dealing with ongoing stress, developmental PTSD, trauma or anxiety. Being diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder as an adult, I have a particular interest in how trauma symptoms and coping strategies can sometimes overlap with, and impact, executive functioning. I approach therapy with an intersectional feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppressive lens.
I work predominantly with folks who are racialized, 2SLGBTIQ, neurodivergent, and/or disabled. Often, those I work with have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder; experience identity-based trauma; struggle with relationships, emotional regulation, or impulsivity; want greater self-awareness or understanding; want to feel a sense of belonging, connection, and safety; or generally, want more joy in their lives.

I deeply believe that the body knows what needs to be healed and holds the keys to that healing. Our systems, however, are so good at keeping us safe that we often can't access those keys alone. I use a range of tools to facilitate that healing, including conversation, meditation, visualization, mindfulness, IFS, AEDP, and sometimes energy work depending on the individual I am working with. I aim to be feminist, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive, which means the client is always the expert on their own experience. We work collaboratively using a range of tools to find the right path forward for you.

I am a queer therapist and embrace a poly/ feminist friendly & neurodiversity and gender affirming approach.
Lunch hour, afternoon/ evening & Saturday availability. Easy online booking. Counseling can be a slice of time for us to bring attention to what you’re feeling and, given what you’ve already experienced, notice what you're now ready to experience from here. My practice is rooted in nurturing secure connection with self and others. I work collaboratively supporting feelings of security, purpose & fulfillment, alongside a titrated release of anxiety/ fear. I am perpetually intrigued at how things can shift naturally and feel surprisingly easier as the wisdom in our body/ nervous system is effectively included in healing conversation.

I work from a feminist, multicultural, and intersectional perspective, with adults of all backgrounds.
Life may not be going the way you hoped it would. Experiences from your past may make it difficult to trust yourself or others, and you may hold beliefs, identities, and intersections that mean you face unique barriers in the world. Anxiety may make it hard to connect with people, and you may struggle with negative self-talk, setting boundaries, and expressing your needs. You may have many questions about how to have the relationships you crave, yet not know how to get there, or how to feel like you belong.

Coming from a narrative-feminist approach, I believe in partial expertise — that as a client and a therapist, we both have expertise, but what we know is incomplete.
I take a holistic approach to practice, considering how our mind, emotions, body and spirit come together to frame our relationship to the world. I believe mental health to be not only the removal of challenges, but the creation of an active sense of well-being. So, in sessions together, I seek to focus not only on difficulties, but to consider what could be done to increase your resilience and sense of well-being. How we define health can vary widely, and some paths I tend to take focus on gratitude, mindfulness, self-compassion and vulnerability.

I take a trauma-informed, relational, feminist approach to my work.
Starting therapy with someone new can be tough. Finding the right therapist for you can be even tougher. I've worked with clients who have bounced around a lot, who are looking for someone who makes them feel heard, seen, and understood. If you want a safer, inclusive, non-judgmental person to offer some support with your challenges and goals, I'd love to meet you.

Working from a feminist, LGBT+ allied, and body-positive framework, I want to ensure that everyone feels safe and supported.
Beginning to start working through our own personal stress and distress can be overwhelming and intimidating. Working with clients to find new ways of coping, process past experiences and trauma, and establishing healthy boundaries are some of my goals as a therapist, and I aim to provide a safe and comfortable place for that work to happen.

The therapy I do comes from a culturally humble, feminist, trauma-informed, growth-oriented perspective.
I primarily use IFS (internal family systems), EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing), and somatic therapies to help clients heal from and cope more effectively with difficulties having to do with mood disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, addiction, sexual abuse, complex trauma (i.e. repeated painful experiences of betrayal, abandonment, or boundary violations); grief, disrupted attachment in early childhood, as well as experiences of discrimination, exclusion, or shaming on the basis of sexuality, sexual orientation, cultural identity, or anything else that unjustly marks an individual as inferior.

Feminist Counsellors

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
