I am a registered psychologist and have been working in mental health since 2012. My formal education, additional training, and clinical experience have prepared me to effectively support both adults and teens with several concerns related to mental health. My primary area of practice is psychological trauma and related concerns such as post-traumatic stress injury, emotional dysregulation, somatic symptoms, risk behaviours, depression, anxiety, acute and chronic stress, and burnout. I integrate the mind, brain, body and sociocultural context in my understanding and treatment of the concerns that trouble my clients.

I bring a diverse background in education, working with both teenagers and adults. Helping people discover their inner strength and navigate life's challenges is not just my profession, but my passion. In my practice, I firmly believe that "story follows state." What this means is that our personal narratives are deeply intertwined with our emotional states. By understanding and reshaping our stories, we can transform our lives. I'm a strong advocate for co-regulation in the therapy space. Together, we'll create a safe and supportive environment where you can embark on the path of self-discovery and positive change.

Accepting new clients, veterans and first responders welcome! I am a Provisional Registered Psychologist in Alberta P7592, with over 25 years of counselling experience, supporting adolescents, adults and families struggling with complex behavioural and mental health concerns. It has been an honour supporting, and witnessing transformative changes in both individuals, and collective systems; within the context of public health care, corporate settings, and private practice. I believe that symptoms often result from the accumulation of unresolved trauma and complex adverse life experiences. Healing is possible!

I have over 18 years experience working collaboratively with adults, teens and families.
I have worked with many clients struggling with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions and parenting concerns. Many clients report experiencing benefit even after one session. Many people identify the courage and vulnerability it took to reach out, and noted relief after that first step. I provide a safe and accepting space. I specialize in working with adults who have experienced childhood trauma.
The resiliency of individuals who have experienced trauma in their childhood humbles me. When speaking with clients with childhood trauma, clients often say that this is the first time that they are talking about their traumatic experience. The reason that they are choosing to address the trauma now is because it continues to get in the way and they want to create change in order to move forward with family, relationships, work, or quality of life. I can help process the trauma so that moving forward is possible.

Parenting is the most invested relationship one can partake in. There are many tasks and challenges involved in guiding little people towards becoming adults. Life can force families to face events that impact children's ability to feel safe and function successfully. This is when it becomes key to incorporate "it takes a whole community to raise a child", and I believe that people do the best they can with what they know. I have dedicated 23 years to helping children express their needs. And I can help increase your "knowing" so that we can enrich your child's relationships and increase their tolerance for the difficult stuff

I provide individual counselling for adults ages 18+ seeking support with LGBTQ+ and gender-identity related concerns, trauma, sexual violence, relationships, pregnancy options, post-abortion support, perinatal mental health, and sex and intimacy concerns.
We all need a space where we feel heard, validated and supported without judgment. The cultural messages we receive around our trauma, sexuality and gender can have a profound impact on the way we experience both ourselves and the world. As a queer therapist, I am passionate about providing a safe, inclusive and compassionate space for female-identified and LGBTQ+ clients as they embark on their journeys of self-discovery, healing and empowerment.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
