With specialized training in Couple & Family Therapy and a background in sex education, I am experienced at helping clients work through life's challenges.
I believe that our relationships can be sites of powerful healing. As a therapist it is an honour to work alongside couples and families as their relationships - to one another, to others, to themselves - transform. It is through this transformation that we come to better understand ourselves and create new ways of being that are more compassionate, empathetic and generative.

I offer individual and group therapy to youths (16y/o+) and adults who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of colour). Many of the clients I work with are racialized queer and trans survivors who are experiencing and/or have experienced intimate partner violence, childhood abuse, sexual assault, family abuse, state and workplace violence. Other areas I can support with include impacts of racial trauma, intergenerational trauma, grief, migration, exploration of gender/sexuality, interpersonal relationships and reconnecting with self.

It might be conflict, family issues, emotion dysregulation, stress, unhappiness, decision making or low self esteem.
Are you tired of scrolling through the profiles on here and every one sounds the same? Well, one thing I can promise you is, that I am not your average therapist. The first difference is that I have been doing this a long time. My experience has exposed me to multiple training opportunities and supervision sessions to really ensure I have the skills and knowledge to give you the highest possible level of service. In this business, that’s important. That experience also makes me very confident and comfortable with whatever it is that you bring me. I have heard a lot of stories and value and respect them all.

Through various forms of therapy, one can explore different perspectives, coping skills, and motivators to establish better relationships; self-esteem and self-direction; deal with complicated family or couple dynamics; face a significant crisis or transition; and make cognitive and behavioral changes to better emotional, mental, and physical health.
They say our greatest weakness lies in giving up! We have all been there. I decided that if life was going to be difficult, I would become its greatest “warrior” and teach others to do the same. Too often we use our armour to hide our inner selves, rather than see it as our strength which only comes from taking a risk, facing our fears, taking a step forward, and learning that every battle is won with wisdom. I am here to empower you to take that chance on yourself — your mind is a powerful force, but you are its master!

I am a family systems therapist who works with youth, parents and couples who have experienced various mental health challenges or are facing stress and anxiety due to relationship conflict. The families I tend to support are often feeling disconnected from one another and stuck in patterns of relating that often intensify their existing challenges. The foundation of my work is in building relationships where clients feel seen, heard and understood, allowing them to draw on their internal strengths. My role as a social worker is to help clients understand themselves and their relationships in a way that supports authentic growth.

My approach is informed by somatic therapy, internal family systems, family constellations, and hypnotherapy.
Talking things through and accountability have not been enough to sustain satisfaction in your life?   Let’s try something different! In our sessions everything deserves a place; emotions, thoughts, images, dreams, desires, impulses, stories, and sensations, they all belong. And all need to be acknowledged in order to generate real movements and shifts in our lives. Movements can happen externally as a physical release, internally as a new image of ourselves, or at a soul level shifting our dynamics with others, and the way we live.

As a psychodynamically trained psychotherapist, I have helped people with many challenges including anxiety, depression, relational and family conflict, parenting challenges and the ongoing impacts of trauma, with a special interest in transgenerational, racial, and trauma of displacement.
We seek out therapy for many reasons, but the process of finding a therapist who is a good fit for us can itself feel overwhelming. I first and foremost offer a safe space where you can feel heard, seen and understood. My approach to therapy is relational and collaborative, which means that it is the co-created relationship between us that is the healing force of therapy. Our sessions draw upon experiences from the past and bring to light how these get replayed, with or without our knowing, in our present ways of thinking, feeling and relating to others. Together we explore these repetitive patterns that can keep us feeling stuck.

Maybe you're here because you are struggling in your primary relationship; having the same old arguments with your partner, feeling disconnected & longing for more intimacy, or dealing with a difficult life event, such as a betrayal. Perhaps you're looking for help because you are feeling stressed out, anxious, and are tired of being so hard on yourself. Or maybe you're having a difficult time relating to family members or friends - unresolved tension with parents, feeling at sea with how to relate to your kids, or not feeling like you can relax & be yourself around others. The focus of my work is helping people with relationships.

I am passionate about supporting people in their healing from experiences such as racial trauma, workplace trauma, uncoupling, family dysfunction, and grief and bereavement.
I believe it's always possible to reconnect with our strengths, joys, values, and desires, even in times when we feel stuck: when it's particularly hard to see the meaning in our lives, when feelings of regret outweigh feelings of acceptance, when shame and anxiety hold us back from engaging with ourselves and our loved ones. In my work with you, I want to point out those sacred parts of yourself that might have been forgotten. I want to help you see the different paths you can take, and be alongside you as you choose and move forward.

I have learned from several therapeutic approaches including relational, narrative, DBT, CBT, and internal family systems.
Welcome! Every one of us has grown and been shaped by the relationships we have had and continue to have throughout our lives. Along this path, there may have been pain, anxiety, grief, loss, and joy. Perhaps you are searching for support with depression or loss, or anxiety, or the sense that something isn’t as you wish it to be in your life and relationships. You are seeking a path out of your distress. In therapy, building the space for acceptance and curiosity, for compassion and repair, is what heals.

For the many people who call Canada home but have roots elsewhere, there is a sense of living in between cultures and not having a clear map to guide the way. Whether you yourself have left your homeland, or migration was a part of your family history, you might be wondering, “Who am I really?” and “Where do I truly belong?” You might have difficulty feeling “at home” within yourself - as you struggle with low self-worth and shame, or feel confused about your values. You might have difficulty feeling “at home” with others - in feeling different and alone without community, or guilty, anxious, and resentful in your relationships.

My knowledge and training allow me to pull from various therapeutic modalities (for example: Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, CBT, Mindfulness, Attachment-focused therapy and Narrative Therapy), however, all of my work is informed through the lens of the innate knowledge our minds and bodies hold and helping you tune into yours.
Hi there. Whether you are seeking therapy during a time of crisis, looking to address an acute issue or wanting to better understand yourself and what has shaped you, I would be honoured to walk along side you and guide you on your healing journey. I have spent the last 10 years specializing in the field of trauma and attachment. My work oscillates between assisting you to develop strategies to feel more grounded in your day to day life, as well as, tuning into the bigger picture of what shaped you and the meaning you have made of these experiences in order to lead to more meaningful healing and balance.

We will establish your goals for both therapy in general and for each session, whether you're an individual, a couple or a family.
Investing in understanding yourself — what makes you unique, what makes you strong, and how you may hold yourself back — is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Self-awareness is like a super-power — it doesn’t solve all life’s problems, but it gives you ways of navigating challenges that make you more likely land well. Whether you are looking for quick tools to help shift your mood, or longer-term support for charting a course through a major life transition, or puzzling through challenges with end-of-life, grief, family, relationships or work, I feel privileged to support your success and be and a part of your story.

I have over eight years of experience offering individual and family therapy to children, individuals, and families struggling with various complex challenges.
Are you struggling in your relationships with others? Relationships are complex and could be complicated. Yet, as human beings, we need others, and when there are challenges in our relationships we suffer and struggle. We all need to be loved and cared for, yet we often push away the very people we want to be close to. Rejection or the fear of it, could be so painful and makes us withdraw, isolate or hurt back. As a result, we may feel inadequate, unlovable, unworthy, and hopeless. Deep down, we want to feel connected, and we want to feel good about ourselves, and at peace.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
