I've found success and strength working on topics such as anxiety, stress, perfectionism, family dynamics, social issues, emotional regulation, struggles with peers, depression, and have extensive experience in trauma.
I’m a Child and Youth Counsellor with 17 years of experience working one-on-one with diverse children and youth. I meet each client where they're at, and am known for my ability to make kids feel at ease, safe and comfortable. I use a warm, empathetic and strengths-based approach. I help child and youth clients to identify strengths and goals by working alongside them and supporting their needs in a collaborative, developmentally appropriate (and often fun!) way that facilitates their growth, personal understanding and mental health journey.

Grief is unique for every individual. There are many different losses that individuals experience, but the commonality is that grief can be debilitating, lonely and isolating. I accompany clients on their journey of processing multiple forms of grief that can include death loss, pet loss, traumatic loss and/or chronic sorrow. I offer in-person, virtual and telephone sessions. I also am available to provide support to clients in a counselling capacity specific to mental health concerns (anxiety, depression, self esteem, family conflict).

I am a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist with over 23 years of clinical, teaching, and hypnotherapy experience in community counselling agency, hospital and family health team mental health, and private practice settings.
Every morning we start a new day aiming to be safe, happy, and fulfilled, with a sense of belonging. We know that life plays by its own rules, so we do the best we can with the knowledge, skills, and resources at hand. Some days turn out better than others. Because you are here, you probably have decided it's time to "cross that bridge", whatever that means in your life. Maybe you have reached a place with no bridge in sight. I'm here to help!

Making the choice to come to counselling is an important life decision. Finding the right counsellor is key. A person who may be apprehensive about sharing needs to feel comfortable before the work can begin. This is always the first step of counselling. Then needs and goals can be looked at.

I am a Psychotherapist and Social Worker (MSW, RSW) with a passion for supporting people in creating healthy, fulfilling relationships. We are wired for love as human beings. And now a wealth of scientific research on attachment relationships backs this up. This means our closest relationships impact us in significant ways. On one hand, loving relationships are essential for supporting our growth and wellbeing. On the other hand, difficulties in our closest relationships fuel many of our most painful emotional struggles. So relationships hugely impact our health and wellbeing, for better or for worse.

I work with adults, both individually and as couples, who may be feeling 'stuck' or unhappy with the status quo. Most commonly, my clients are working to overcome anxiety, depression, anger, or relationship issues. I also help couples as they work to rebuild their sense of connection and emotional intimacy.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
