I believe in the healing quality of relationships to help you feel more more confident, courageous and connected - whether that means individual therapy for yourself or attachment focused family therapy.
You find it hard to express yourself clearly to loved ones when emotions are charged. Maybe you are struggling to make sense of who you are as a person, a parent or a partner, and the decisions you make just don't feel like you anymore. Getting in touch with your feelings can be stressful but it doesn't have to be that way. You don't have to be alone with self-doubt, anger, fear or shame anymore. Therapy can help you improve your relationships and feel more like yourself again while you gain the insight and clarity you are looking for.

Not accepting new clients. When it comes to working with children, youth, and young adults, the most common story I hear is that they do not feel seen or understood. Without feeling safe, they are stuck in a continuous loop of fight or flight responses which can lead to meltdowns, school avoidance, and risk-taking behaviours. Understanding that they are doing the best they can, I aim to help young people find safety and connection so that they can thrive within systems that do not always support living outside the “standard box.”

I have experience with a variety of client challenges including anxiety, addiction, complex trauma, depression, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, grief, etc. I have a strong interest in Interpersonal Neurobiology (the brain’s ability to rewire itself when offered corrective emotional experiences) and Sensorimotor Therapy, which rests under the assumption that trauma or attachment disruption is stored in the body. In addition, I have recently started using EMDR in my therapeutic practice with children and adults.

I’m a client lead experiential counsellor offering a holistic approach to trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, couples issues, parenting struggles and postpartum depression. What is client-led experiential counselling you ask? Great question. Client-lead experiential essentially means that I don’t have a set agenda or formula. Instead I draw on many perspectives and use what works best for you and sometimes that means we'll try a more experiential approach, allowing the body to inform us about what is most needed in our session together.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
