My approach is influenced by person-centered counselling, CBT, EFFT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, play therapy, Jungian psychology and expressive arts therapy.
I work with children, teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relational difficulties. My goal is to provide my clients with a space that supports them to tolerate and express big feelings, explore their inner experiences, and work towards their goals in life. Together we develop a tool-kit of skills and practices that will support their mental wellbeing so they can follow their passions, have deep and meaningful relationships, and grow their resilience to navigate the complexity and fullness of life.

As a therapist, and human in general, I am passionate about creating space for the stories and emotions that are so often pushed away, hidden from view, and disavowed. I believe that to be seen, heard, and accepted in these tender places can be a profoundly healing experience, even (and especially) when there is "nothing to do about it," other than bear witness and grieve. An important piece of this process is moving towards a way of being that centers less around achieving, perfecting and “doing” and much more around “being.” Being present, being messy, being perfectly imperfect and ok with slow processes and uncertainties.

Strained relationships; overwhelming anxiety; existential loneliness; feeling inherently broken and unlovable: if you live with trauma, these experiences may be familiar to you. The good news? You don’t have to feel that way forever. You can have a life where you feel connected to the world around you, nurture happy and healthy relationships, and communicate through overwhelm and activation. I provide counselling for individuals and couples struggling with trauma and related conflict/communication issues, attachment/relational wounds, burnout, and grief. I specialize in working with queer couples and 2SLGBTQ+ survivors of abuse.

I recognize the vulnerability it takes to connect with someone new about the challenges you’ve been facing. I believe that together, we can create a space where your experiences can be explored, witnessed, and deeply held. My hope is that this collaborative process will open portals of possibility for you, and new ways of being in the world. My approach is gentle, curious, and embodied. Folks I work with experience me as open and non-judgemental, with an occasional spark of playfulness.

Overwhelm, uncertainty, confusion, conflict, anxiety, despair and dread - if this is your reality right now, you're not alone. We're all longing for a sense of connection, possibility, and hope in the face of the tsunami of injustice, trauma and loss we've all been living through for so long. Stress levels higher than the price of a Vancouver condo, identities under attack from all sides and catastrophe looming around every corner - how do we cope with the chaos and still show up as the partners, parents, caregivers, creatives, healers and changemakers we long to be?

I specialize in counselling for the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent people, and those with BPD - often self-identified oddballs, weirdos, and outsiders with big feelings. I love working with highly sensitive people; those who have been told they are "too much" and experience the world with intensity. Many of my clients struggle with feeling empty, numb, and disconnected one minute, and in excruciating emotional pain the next, as if they're on a rollercoaster that they can't get off and no one around them understands. It can be incredibly isolating, leaving them feeling disconnected from community and struggling in relationships.

I have extensive experience working with family members and partners of trans folks.
I support people in finding the sparkle, hope, and joy in life again. The weight of the world, trauma, and our personal experiences can sometimes be very heavy, which can lead to depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, feeling numb or feeling burnt out. Counselling with me will strengthen the ways you cope, help you re-story what is going on for you (you are already the main character in your life!), and support you in changing negative or self-deprecating thought patterns.

I am skilled in working with clients across a broad range of concerns, including overall mental health, life transition, grief/loss, complex and family trauma, gender and sexuality, and attachment related struggles.
Welcome! I am a queer and gender expansive therapist, offering individual online therapy across most Canadian jurisdictions. I offer a contextualizing, self-compassionate, and strengths based approach. While life's hardships will never disappear, I can help you come to more peace and aliveness within yourself. I offer a warm, non-judgmental space to be seen, heard, and grow within. Therapy is kind of like detangling a big ball of yarn; it can be both hard yet relieving (you're not broken, just tangled!), and ultimately allows room for more consciousness/choice to flow in: now that your threads are free, what would you like to weave?

I have done a lot of healing from trauma of family, culture, and the society.
I work from the deep belief that you have everything you need to heal and thrive. My role is to create a context (eg. ND-affirming, gender-affirming, anti-oppressive, decolonial, anti-imperial) in which you can connect with all that you are. This may involve figuring out "internal" conflict, development of trust and skills in yourself and others, and/or turning trauma into wisdom. Please check out my website for more!

I'm a genderqueer trans counsellor who works with adults, youth, and families to gently explore difficulties while affirming the ways people are already working towards their own healing. Right now we are dealing with a lot: COVID-19, the ongoing and escalating police violence against Black and Indigenous peoples, as well as the ongoing racism against Asian and South Asian communities and Hispanic and Latin communities. In these times we need to find ways to support each other through the isolation, uncertainty and hardships. I offer several sliding scale options to make counselling as accessible as possible.

I approach counselling from a lens that is grounded in the continued practice of anti-racism, disability justice, queer theory, sex positivity, and that recognizes the systemic violence that has, and continues to, harm us and impact our experiences in the world, and inside ourselves. The main niche of folks that I have had the honour of working with over the years have been queer and trans folks, sex workers, disabled folks, non-traditional relationship networks, kink and bdsm communities, BIPOC folks, folks navigating complex trauma, and those living at the intersections of many of these identities.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
