Being in autopilot can be the only thing you know when life feels so stressful and unbalanced. This could be from past or ongoing abuse and trauma and how you learned how to cope. Maybe you get so caught up in autopilot that you forget to slow down, feel, and unpack what happened. There’s poor communication with your friends, family, and loved ones. Stuck in a rut of communication and not knowing how to adjust. Walls up so high, people aren’t let in; maybe you avoid conflict so much that you have the tendency to people-please and don’t prioritize your own needs. Whatever it might be, you see a need for change.

While I am heavily influenced by neurobiology, narrative therapy, family systems, and attachment theory, you are central, so together we will find creative and unique ways to bring healing, fullness, and rest.
We all experience struggles and pain in life and when we do, we seek relief by finding ways to avoid knowing the details of our struggles. Yet, no matter how well we push the pain aside, it continually resurfaces, desperately pleading us to not avoid gaining a greater understanding of ourselves.

I hold a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, and specialize in working with couples to deepen connection and grow in understanding of each other.
I am passionate about working with couples! Human beings are innately relational and wired for connection. I seek to provide a space to voice the unspoken, clarify the assumed, heal the hurt, and strengthen the bond. Each of us face adversity that truly challenges our mental, emotional, and relational capacity. The challenge is to ensure these difficult moments don't define us, but instead are seen as opportunity for growth. Let me create space for you - to be heard and to experience hope, gain new coping strategies, and explore new perspectives.

My experience as a former teacher and behavior specialist, combined with the lived experience of being a second generation Canadian, and parent of a larger family enables me to bring a unique and supportive perspective to the therapeutic space.
Overwhelmed, stressed and or burnt out is how a lot of people are feelings these days. Perhaps it's a struggle with parenting, or maybe you have come at crossroads in your relationship. It may be the search for more balance in your life or you are experiencing a life change. Whatever the path is that lies before you, you're looking for support on that journey.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
