In my practice I combine the useful tools offered by CBT with person-focused meaning-making talk therapies such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Existential Psychotherapy.
Welcome. I’m happy you’re here because it means you believe things can get better, and that means you have hope. Hope is a great starting point. All of us woke up in this place called life, and none of us got a manual, let me help you make the most of it. I strive to create a warm, collaborative, and welcoming atmosphere where your bravery and vulnerability are met with a non-judgmental and curious attitude that allows for new insights and self-awareness to surface. I love walking alongside my client’s on their journey to build resilience, tenacity and self-leadership.

Specializing in trauma/PTSD, relationship/family issues, and anxiety, I am here to walk alongside you on this journey of growth.
Are you trying to move forward in life, but find yourself constantly weighed down by the past? Maybe it's your experience growing up, a toxic relationship, or something that happened to you. After hardship or trauma, the brain adapts in brilliant (though sometimes unhelpful) ways. You might find yourself feeling anxious and unable to let things go, numb and shut down, or feeling disconnected from the person you want to be and the life you want to be living. If that sounds like you, know that this doesn't have to go on forever.

When a transgender youth comes out to their family, the whole family experiences a transition. For youth, family acceptance, celebration and support are integral to feeling safe, secure, and authentically themselves at home. I am skilled in working with clients across a broad range of concerns, including overall mental health, life transition, grief/loss, complex and family trauma, gender and sexuality, and attachment related struggles.
Welcome! I am a queer and gender expansive therapist, offering individual online therapy across most Canadian jurisdictions. I offer a contextualizing, self-compassionate, and strengths based approach. While life's hardships will never disappear, I can help you come to more peace and aliveness within yourself. I offer a warm, non-judgmental space to be seen, heard, and grow within. Therapy is kind of like detangling a big ball of yarn; it can be both hard yet relieving (you're not broken, just tangled!), and ultimately allows room for more consciousness/choice to flow in: now that your threads are free, what would you like to weave?

It is seeming all too normal these days to experience feelings of disconnection. A separation from ourselves, our passions, our bodies, our communities, etc. We spend so much time in our heads trying to figure out how to survive when we so desperately want to be thriving. Where has our aliveness gone? How do we get our bodies and our senses back online and truly show up for our unique experience?

Hello! I offer virtual counseling and other supports for adults and youth aged 12+. As a white, neurodivergent, trans, genderqueer pagan with a delayed sleep cycle, I’ve created Night Owl Counseling to be the mutually accessible, anti-oppressive, culturally humble, difference-affirming space I'd always wished for myself. My skillset goes beyond mental health support, because the mind is interconnected with every other part of us. I can also provide life skills coaching, help with accessing other systems, or even develop a long-term plan for your ideal future.

My hope is to ground our conversations in nuance, sensitivity and curiosity.

Congratulations on taking this first step towards your own self-care. People start therapy for many reasons. Maybe your inner voice wonders whether you’re good enough. Maybe you’re having a difficult time finding joy in your life, and are searching for more meaning. Maybe you’re finding it hard to cope with life’s challenges, or are undergoing a big change, and are feeling worry and anxiety. Maybe you’d like to explore an earlier trauma, and you’re looking for someone compassionate and open-minded, who can help bring a new level of insight to your past.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
