My therapy practice is deeply rooted in celebrating 2SLGBTQ identities, neurodivergence, harm reduction, building a better relationship with your body and eating, and unpacking the impacts of trauma. If you tend to intellectualize your emotions and struggle to really feel them, my somatic and arts-based approach may work for you. You may already have a clear idea of what you'd like to discuss in therapy - or you may not! Either way is more than welcome.

When a transgender youth comes out to their family, the whole family experiences a transition. For youth, family acceptance, celebration and support are integral to feeling safe, secure, and authentically themselves at home. For parents, their child coming out as transgender means learning to reimagine a new future and gender for their child. Reimagining a child’s future can feel scary when first learning that your child is trans- parents and caregivers often worry if their child will be misunderstood or be the victim of transphobia or violence. These worries can make envisioning a future worth celebrating feel difficult for parents

I offer one-on-one individual sessions for adults and youth navigating themes of depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, grief, sexuality, gender identity, race/racism, childhood trauma, relationships issues, self-worth and harm reduction/substance use. I approach the exploration of healing and trauma processing with a non-linear, non-pathological perspective that recognizes the relationships between systemic oppression, intergenerational trauma, and adaptive survival/coping mechanisms. My hope is to ground our conversations in nuance, sensitivity and curiosity.

Hello and welcome! I'm a queer, transmasculine therapist with a background in health and community-based work, as well as in music, writing, and theatre. I draw upon a range of strengths-based and trauma-informed therapy approaches with the intention of increasing my clients' capacity to safely connect to themselves and to move toward ways of living and relating that affirm them in their wholeness. It is seeming all too normal these days to experience feelings of disconnection. A separation from ourselves, our passions, our bodies, our communities, etc. We spend so much time in our heads trying to figure out how to survive when we so desperately want to be thriving. Where has our aliveness gone? How do we get our bodies and our senses back online and truly show up for our unique experience?

What do you think when you think of therapy? Are you looking for a therapist who is warm, open, and wants to support you exactly where you are at? When you think of connecting with a therapist, what are some of your hopes? My name is Adrian and I want to provide an open and collaborative space where we can connect about issues you are facing. Things such as grief, depression, anxiety, systemic oppression, not feeling accepted, transitions, and maybe an overall feeling that things are harder than they could be.

I work with racialized, LGBTQ+, and immigrant communities, who are experiencing issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma related to their intersectional identities and experiences. I work well with individuals who are open to exploring their emotions and thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental space. They seek a therapeutic relationship where they can foster self-awareness, identify patterns of behavior that may no longer serve them, and cultivate healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. I encourage collaborative approaches with clients, and aid in facilitating their personal growth and empowerment.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
