My specialty is in working with cancer survivors & their family members, adults dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma and self-esteem issues, and with couples.
As a Social Worker, Psychotherapist and Qualified Mindfulness Instructor, I work with you to help you make sense of your own life experiences, understand how your past affects you now, and make positive changes. Mindfulness is an integral part of my personal and professional life. Since 2009 I have studied the intersection of Buddhism and Psychology and I have partnered with several government and public institutions to run accessible mindfulness programs (including MBSR) for staff and students (i.e. Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, UofT, Central LHIN, The Princess Margaret).

Whether you’re seeking to address persistent, lifelong concerns or the effects of new and unsettling events, psychotherapy can be a helpful tool. It offers the opportunity of establishing a deeper and more meaningful understanding of ourselves and of our personal history, and work toward more fulfilling lives and relationships. For many of us psychotherapy can mean a way out of dark places. Pursuing therapy does not mean we will never be faced with challenging moments, it means that we will show up better equipped to handle adversities and will be able to bring our best selves to the forefront.

You are capable and bright. You are ambitious and perseverant. But there are so many demands on your life, so many responsibilities. In juggling all the balls- children, spouse, your career, the house chores, friends- you find yourself exhausted and drained, and not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. All the sleep in the world does not seem to cut it. All the self care advice in your IG feed does not make a difference. You know you need to find a better way to live life, but where to get started? Is therapy the answer? Life coaching? Better self care? How about all of the above? Awareness + tools and techniques +action!

My aim is to help people recognize their inner strength. I am quite passionate about working with folks who feel trapped in a pattern of unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that can often dictate their view of themselves and the world. My practice is cognitive behavioural focused; however, I also have experience incorporating evidence based approaches such as mindfulness, dialectical behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing and solution focused brief therapy techniques. Treatment will be tailored specifically to each person’s needs and goals. Grenadier's practice is LGBTQ positive, trauma-informed, and weight inclusive.

Our lives are not entirely defined by what has happened to us but rather by how we choose to make sense of it and who we choose to be as a result. My vocation and commitment to supporting individuals to overcome adversity, trauma, and problems in living are rooted in the Ubuntu philosophy. Providing support across all age groups, I promote inner self-discovery and self-mastery. I offer unique individual-specific approaches to empower self-actualization by challenging unhelpful beliefs, improving self-concept, working through painful experiences, accessing resources, and changing unhealthy habits to live more authentically.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
