Our lives can get painful and confusing. I specialize in helping adults and youth (16+) experiencing distress (depression, anger, trauma), complex family dynamics, and challenging life transitions, including adolescence, separation, midlife changes and grief. My style is integrative and draws across several modalities. I provide a safe space to explore your feelings and practice important adjustments that will serve you better. Together, we will take note of beliefs and behaviours that are damaging and unproductive; explore feelings that want to surface; and work on strategies for moving forward with greater joy and freedom.

You are in the driver seat, so depending on your unique goals we may use different interventions such as traditional talk therapy, shadow work to identify unconscious patterns, process trauma with Internal Family Systems, or CBT for skill-building.
Starting therapy can be overwhelming and finding the right therapist ‘fit’ is critical for therapy to work. To make starting therapy easier, my aim is to offer clients a warm, empathic, and non-judgemental space to discuss and process what they've been struggling with. I work with clients on a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, grief, life transitions, and much more. In our sessions you will feel heard, genuinely cared for, and challenged, while also being met with meaningful questions, reflection, feedback, and curiosity. All of this is in service to improve the relationship you have with yourself.

You are a good, kind person who struggles with situations that cause you confusion and pain. Perhaps you are a parent concerned about your child or teen's behaviours and moods. Maybe you are struggling with feeling down, anxious or inadequate. Or there is conflict and distance in your relationship that is causing you concern. Therapy is an effective way to overcome difficulties with emotions, thoughts and relationships. Sometimes the hardest relationship is with ourselves. Therapy can help you bounce back, increase your joy, and create healthy connections with the people you love.

If you're a parent challenged with a child who brings a whole lot of stress and chaos I can help. If you are finding there is more struggle than seems natural, it might be a deeper understanding of your child's personality, and how it intersects with your parenting style that is needed. I have developed a program I call Transformative Compassionate Parenting, thru this way of looking at your relationship with your child we can create calm and rational responses, where there once was only explosive emotional outbursts. Reach out for a chat, calm is only a phone call or email away.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
