With specialized knowledge in adoption, family relationships, and grief/loss, I can help you work through your difficulties.
Your needs are important, and I am here to help you feel supported and validated, whether you are seeking support for yourself, with your partner or as a family. You will always feel listened to in my counselling room. A counselling approach that uses emotion to change emotion is powerful and offers so much hope. It is effective with couples and individuals alike. Meeting your unique needs is what matters most, so I am flexible and incorporate a range of interventions that will help you reach your goals. Counselling is not "one size fits all"; it is a creative process of working together to help you feel in control of your life.

I have been a counselling therapist for over half a decade, grew up in a rural community with a large family and now live in Calgary with my husband of seven years and two children.
My goal in therapy is to cultivate a space where you will feel genuinely heard and understood. I offer a comfortable space marked by empathy and acceptance, in which anyone is welcomed to voice issues and concerns. I enjoy working with youth, adolescents, couples, and families and bring a gentle and empathetic presence to each client session. I understand that you may desire to integrate spirituality into your therapy, and am willing to use my Christian faith, and other spiritual resources to guide you through difficulty and challenge.

I believe mental health is just as important as physical health and believe passionately that when people have someone to listen, they can uncover and understand themselves exponentially. I believe in coming alongside individuals in a compassionate and nonjudgmental way so they feel safe and comfortable sharing their experiences. I believe our past plays an important role in how we navigate situations in the present and work to uncover core beliefs and how they affect our behaviour. I support individuals and couples as well as provide parent support for those raising neurodiverse children, such as Autism, ADHD, PDA, Anxiety & FASD.

Most of how we feel, respond and think is based on unconscious patterning beliefs. I am committed to providing a safe and compassionate space for you to feel welcomed where ever you are at. By shedding light on what is unconscious through the pathway of increased awareness major transformation, healing and new neural connections can occur. The secret to feeling more ease lies in examining the core issues that are causing the distress and look directly into those places that we are avoiding. This approach arises from my experience that lasting change occurs when metal, physical, emotional and spiritual systems are all involved.

I have advanced training and expertise in working with toddlers, children and adolescents as a registered play therapist. Working from a developmentally-informed perspective I collaborate with parents so they can better understand and best support their children.

Feeling stuck? Worried that things won't get better? Have you been putting off more tasks and feeling further behind? Sometimes the stress from our relationships, responsibilities, work and family demands can feel overwhelming. In times of uncertainty, we may find it especially tricky to manage what we used to manage. Feeling demotivated, alone or hopeless can be common experiences after going through adversities or trauma. We may want company but find ourselves taking a step back or feeling anxious to talk with others. We want to feel better in order to do more, but uncertain with where to start.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
