And if you’re questioning purpose, we’ll explore your existential questions together.
Clients engaging in therapy with me can expect to feel valued. I listen to my clients’ successes and challenges and help clients capitalize on their strengths. I also treasure my clients’ background and culture. In the first session, I will listen to your stories and use current research and assessment tools to help with diagnosis. Collaboratively, we will set treatment goals and a treatment plan. Whether you are coming to treat mood, stress, or personality, or to learn how to deal with life’s difficult transitions, I will tailor the treatment plan to match your personality and goals.

My work is grounded in the Humanistic-Existential approach, even though I see myself as an Integrative therapist.
I believe people can grow and live meaningful and healthier lives. Seeing them gain insight over the course of therapy and thrive is my passion. I aim to provide a safe and nonjudgmental setting for all my clients by respecting their values and challenges as unique. Over more than eight years in the field of mental health, I have worked with and been able to assist individuals, couples and families with issues such as anxiety, depression, challenges in career, and relationship conflicts.

My special clinical and research interests in working with individuals with terminal illness have led me to become well versed in end-of-life and existential considerations and approaches, such as acceptance and commitment therapy, dignity therapy, and meaning-making.
I offer assessment, therapy, and consultation services to adults and couples contending with a range of challenges related to adjustment to significant life events and transitions, anxiety, depression, end-of-life considerations, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, post-traumatic stress, and treatment adherence. While I emphasize an experiential (i.e., emotion-focused, mindfulness-based) approach to therapy, integrated within interpersonal and systems frameworks, I am also able to draw on cognitive-behavioural techniques.

From one human to another –and as a climate-aware therapist– I create space to explore existential concerns and search for meaning.
Therapeutic alliance is one of the biggest factors of change–I encourage you to schedule a free consultation to see if we might be a good match and ask any questions you may have. My general approach to therapy is: identify the context and function of thoughts/emotions/behavior as they relate to your goals; practice noticing patterns in action; and from this place of recognition, start to tell a story aligned with your values. To suffer is human–but to grow and heal is also human. I offer evidence-based care with a focus on mindfulness, compassion-focused interventions, as well as on uncovering and elevating your existing strengths.

I also specialize and have had training in: sex, intimacy, & relationship therapy; self esteem & self worth; body image & disordered eating; grief, death, & loss; and spiritual/existential concerns.
To me, therapy is a warm, comfortable space we build together; it’s an hour outside of your everyday life, a shared place we can process whatever needs to be processed from the safety of. Care, compassion, non-judgement, and a genuine therapeutic relationship are the foundations of our work together and are my main priorities. My focus is always holistic: we have to look at every layer - from the cues your body and nervous system are giving you to the systemic messages surrounding you - to reach not just the bandaids but the deeper roots of distress and, ultimately, growth. I work from an actively affirming and anti-oppressive lens.

As a therapist specializing in trauma, grief and relational issues, I mainly use somatic therapy, accompanied by emotion-focused therapy, family systems, attachment theory and existential therapy.
It takes courage to begin taking steps toward starting therapy. Has your life become too overwhelming and stressful to manage alone? Are you grieving? Trust me, I have been there too, and feeling anxious and fearful is normal. As your therapist, I will walk with you on your healing journey. A safe and supportive ambiance would be created where we can share openly and address your concerns. I would like to help you, especially if you are experiencing relationship/identity issues, anxiety, grief, or trauma. If you are open to working with me, together we could develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your unique goals.

A depth of experience working with relationships, anxiety, career issues, sexuality and the generalized existential angst we are undergoing in these very unstable times.
As a social work trained psychotherapist (Ontario) with over a decade of private practice experience, I hope to bring an open and accepting mind to a wide variety of clientele. Finding a good fit in a therapist is so hard, especially if it is your first time reaching out for help. It can be daunting. To me a good therapeutic space is one in which trust and compassion can be established, where a person can feel both supported and sometimes gently challenged, and where a relationship is created in which one can feel not only heard, but also understood.

Existential Counsellors

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
