For the past 15 years I have worked with youth and families who are struggling with a variety of mental health issues or relationship difficulties. Often the clients I support are families who are experiencing conflict, whose members are feeling disconnected or teenagers and young adults who are struggling with intense emotions and engaging in behaviours that are concerning to themselves or their caregivers. I work well with people who are interested in transforming themselves and their relationships rather than those who are focused on symptom reduction alone. In addition, I work with adults who have experienced childhood trauma.
I am a registered social worker (MSW, RSW). I offer individual and family therapy specializing in family conflict, parenting, separation and divorce, anxiety, depression, self-harm, peer conflict, school difficulties and trauma. Throughout my career I have worked in children's mental health centres, schools as well as residential and day treatment settings.
The models I use are primarily relational and emotion-focused. I provide trauma focused treatment as needed. My approach is rooted in the notion that fostering healthy relationships can enhance mental well-being. I also focus on helping clients to notice and regulate their emotions and to use them as guides to live a more balanced and meaningful life.
