Therapy is for me a process of listening and acceptance, helping the patient in getting to know how she/he thinks, feels and behaves. Once we know the how and why of our suffering, from now on we can choose a different pattern.

I look forward to working alongside you during this new journey. I believe when clients are given the right environment; one of understanding, non-judgement, and empathy, that they can make lasting changes. Starting counselling can be a scary step, but when you decide that you want to start this journey and trust in the process, change will happen.

I work with teens and adults coping with various mental health concerns. A confidential and caring therapeutic relationship is essential for you to comfortably share the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that have been most distressing for you. My treatment approach is integrative and collaborative, helping clients identify their strengths and achieve their therapeutic goals. In my practice, I use evidence-based therapeutic modalities (such as CBT, DBT, ACT) suitable to each client’s core concerns.

I believe the most effective therapy is the sincere connection between the individual and the therapist. Many people seek counselling hoping to lessen anxiety and depression and to obtain emotional comfort, self-awareness, and peace. I provide an interactive, supportive, and empathic approach to therapy in order for individuals to feel comfortable to pursue these therapy goals.

Life comes with a variety of experiences, and everyone's journey is unique. Sometimes we face difficulties that we could use extra support to navigate. Taking the first step to seek support is a big deal! The unknown is often scary and anxiety provoking. Whether you have been to counselling in the past, or you are considering it for the first time, thank yourself for taking that step. As a social worker, I take pride in working from a biopsychosocial approach. I understand that the lives of individuals are complex, and there are many paths to a desired outcome. I believe that there is no "one size fits all" approach to counselling.

My ideal client is one who wants things to be different and is engaged in the counselling process. It is not necessary as I have made progress with resistant and/or mandated clients such as children or court-ordered clients, but it sure helps. The issues I can mostly help with include being hooked on certain thoughts such as worrying, anxiety, sadness, self-deprecating thoughts and obsessions and compulsions. I can also be most helpful when someone's behaviors are leading to avoiding experiences of life such as addiction, avoidance, distractions, and short term energy releasing behaviors. Clients want change.

I work with adults affected by depression, generalized and social anxiety, panic, sleep disorders, and post-traumatic stress. I am also interested in helping individuals process unresolved grief due to family of origin issues. My areas of specialization include the treatment of eating disorders within an adult population, and treating adult survivors of abuse. I have extensive research and clinical training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and continue to build on these experiences by working with couples suffering from relationship distress.

It's possible you've already survived the toughest moments you can imagine, but are struggling to reconnect to a sense of joy, purpose or meaning in your life. Maybe you've already tried reaching out for help in the past, but it wasn't quite the right time, or the right fit. Your loved ones don't seem to understand why you're struggling, telling you you're just being "too sensitive" and need to "toughen up". Or maybe you've kept everything to yourself, pretending to be ok, but are now feeling so exhausted and overwhelmed that you don't know where to turn or what to do next. This is where I can help.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in E1C are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in E1C then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in E1C, or Child Psychologists in E1C.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like E1C psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in E1C specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
