I rely on an integrative approach to therapy that combines elements of CBT, ACT, DBT, EFT and EMDR.
I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. My approach to therapy emphasizes the importance of confronting our painful emotions and experiences from a place of safety, curiosity, and honesty. I work with individuals and couples as well as teens and youth. I also have a special interest in working with men. I believe that men are often under resourced when it comes to accessing, expressing, and understanding their emotions, often leading to painful, yet avoidable, experiences.

Hi :) I'm Rachel. I believe that every human has the natural desire to grow into the best version of themselves. Since humans are wired for connection it only makes sense that there are periods in our lives where meeting with a mental health professional can greatly benefit our healing. Whether through trauma, grief, mood, desired re-connection to oneself, or any other reason: no issue is too big or small.

I am committed to providing safe space within which clients can feel free to be honest about themselves, their struggles, and their questions. I believe clients deserve to understood holistically as physical, psychological, social, and spiritual beings and to be supported as they navigate the messy interplay between these dimensions of their lives. I find joy in helping clients see themselves and their circumstances in a new light, learn to recognize and trust the strength already resident within themselves, find new ways of relating to the past, present, and future, and gain a greater sense of freedom and fulfillment in daily life.

Hi there! Firstly, thank you for being here. As a psychologist, I believe in a collaborative and client centred approach to therapy. I am truly passionate about assisting individuals in navigating life's transitions, fostering emotional regulation, nurturing personal confidence and self-esteem, providing support during times of grief and loss, and cultivating a healthier mindset. By re-authoring the stories we tell ourselves and challenging the negative beliefs we may hold, our minds can be a safe space again. Additionally, I find great joy in using humour in my practice.

We are a compassionate, non-judgmental, and affordable resource that has been helping Edmontonians heal for 27 years. Most people at some point in their lives experience a need/ desire for change, which often opens the door for healing and growth. Many times this opportunity comes to us unexpectedly in the form of a crisis such as divorce, death of a loved one, job loss, depression, illness, anxiety, or trauma. And right when you want to be feeling positive and happy you instead find yourself experiencing loneness, sadness, anger, or even shame, making you wonder “what’s going on with me?"

My work with people is rooted in the belief that we all have the strength and wisdom within ourselves to make the changes we wish to see. Within the context of a safe and meaningful therapeutic relationship, new ways of being can emerge. Living more fully aligned with our values and increasing our awareness of unhelpful patterns can allow us to live a more meaningful, vibrant, and joyful life. By working collaboratively with you at your own pace, I can support you in expanding your self-awareness and changing the maladaptive beliefs or behaviours that are getting in the way of living the full and rich life that you imagine.

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
