I specialize in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), emotional focused therapy (EFT), first stage trauma treatment, and mindfulness.
I have over 25 years of expertise working in the field of mental health and addiction. For 16 years I worked at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) as a therapist and education specialist. I understand that dealing with difficult emotions and making changes can feel overwhelming at times. My passion is to help individuals learn lifelong skills that will allow them to navigate challenging situations, better understand and strengthen their mental health, and increase their resiliency and ability to thrive in their daily life.

I am a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist and have training in DBT, Polyvagal , TEAM Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Brainspotting.
Life’s transitions – they can be the most exciting and the hardest thing for individuals and families to go through. Starting a new job or school year, having a baby, losing a loved one, losing a pet, divorce, dealing with the daily pressures of society can all be overwhelming to manage on your own. Has a recent change in your life been causing increased anxiety, stress, fear or depression? Is your mood affecting your self esteem, relationships, or habits? Life is full of transitions yet few of us have truly learned all the tools available to ground ourselves and feel safe and secure as we navigate through them.

Additionally, I have received specialized training in various therapeutic approaches such as: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Perinatal Mental Health, Somatic Embodiment & Regulation Strategies, I also possess knowledge and experience in DBT and CBT.
I am accepting new clients. I have over 15 years of experience as a social worker working with individuals, couples and families. In my sessions I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can freely share their stories and experiences without fear of criticism or rejection. Outside of my practice I am a mom of 4 and partner to my husband of 16 years. I understand first hand that life is not always easy, it can be messy and complicated and we can benefit at times from having another person walk alongside us.

I implement evidence-based therapy modalities, such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), that provide research-supported coping skills.
I have always been inspired by those who help others which led me to pursue a career in mental health. I completed my Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Waterloo, and Master of Social Work at Western University and I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. What I value most about the therapeutic process is the mutual collaboration with clients.

I use activating-experiential means (role play, practice experiment, art ), applying brain research, attachment/developmental psychology, analytic-interpretive processing (psychodynamic); C/DBT; trauma treatment; ‘internal self-state’; play therapy.
My background holds 40yr of extensive practice experience and continued learning. Expertise:all relationship concerns; recovery/healing from emotional hurts, losses, trauma. Such events, if in early years, can instill persistent insecurity, fears, loneliness and grief, causing troubled close relationships and inner-life: Restricting our core resilient nature where we keep strong potentials to be more open, creative, confident, realistic/effective persons. Mainly treat “self-regulation” problems: Social anxiety, shame/guilt, anger, depression; Overdependencies; Intimacy-sexuality, Communication; Identity-Personality issues;Selfcare.

I often draw on DBT, CBT, Narrative and Trauma Based approaches throughout my work however each session is individualized.
Welcome - I’m so glad you’re here. I've been privileged to work with children, adults and families in various settings for over 15 years. I believe everyone deserves to be heard and seen, even if that’s not been their past lived experience. I bring a gentle, trauma informed perspective to my work and I see our time together as a collaborative journey where we explore thoughts, emotions and beliefs in a safe and non judgemental space. Part of working with me can also include broker/advocacy work; meaning I can help you navigate the many complexities in our social and community service system (ie, health care, school system, etc).

My therapeutic approaches are rooted in trauma-informed, evidence-based modalities such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Navigating life's challenges, whether it's trauma, transitions, a diagnosis, or simply needing someone to listen, could feel overwhelming and lonely. As someone who has faced similar , I understand firsthand the emotional toll it can take. I'm dedicated to providing a safe and non-judgmental space where clients of all backgrounds, including neurodivergent individuals, can feel seen and supported. With nearly nine years of experience, I believe in the power of empathy, kindness, and cultural sensitivity to facilitate healing.

Many of my clients feel lost or stuck in their lives. They often feel troubled by their relationships, work situations, unmet dreams, and transitions into different stages of life. Our culture does not offer many forums for authentic exploration of life's challenges. My work supports you in exploring the underlying causes of such feelings as anxiety, depression, fear, emptiness, despair, resentment, anger.

Many times we find ourselves "stuck in a rut" not knowing how to address our challenges. It looks like we are separated from our goals and we are not sure how to move forward. Seeing a psychotherapist is like the process of crossing the bridge to freedom from "here" to "where you want/need to be". In my practice, I use a holistic treatment approach consisting of: psychotherapy , lifestyle management strategies (sleep, nutrition, physical exercise), building support and at client's request spiritual/ faith-based practice(s).

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
