I work with high functioning people who are stuck in anxiety and/or depression. I also treat people dealing with the aftermath of trauma. I help get symptoms managed but also get to root causes and heal what is causing the symptoms in the first place. My approach is relational and works, combining the best of brain science and clinical evidence. Together we will explore adverse experiences and the resulting toxic stress that has had an impact on you. As you heal you begin to notice more peace in your thoughts, a return of energy and joy, and recognize your own self limiting patterns.

My areas of specialty and experience include trauma, addictions, depression, anxiety, cultural trauma, low confidence.
I will help you access your body based intuition so that you can find answers that are right for you and your life. The felt sense is a body knowing that we have that is just outside of verbal thought. Your inner wisdom holds the answer to what you need to feel good. Body centered approaches are helpful because while our minds are busy trying to figure things out, our body has a sense of what resonates. Art therapy is a powerful way to use colour and shape and images to access parts of ourselves that words can't convey.

If you are struggling with: Family stress, crisis, grief/loss in the family, anxiety/depression, work overwhelm/stress/burnout, or parenting stress - you are not alone.
We come into this world “wired for connection”. As a baby our survival depends on feeling connected to others and as we grow it’s this CONNECTION that allows us not only to survive but also grow and flourish. Sadly, many of us from very early on, suffer from what’s known as “attachment trauma”: a break or disconnection from those we needed for survival that is left unhealed and instead activates our attachment defenses. The effects of this trauma are far reaching: you might be struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationship difficulties, issues in parenting, exhaustion/burn-out, feeling low, lifeless, or numb.

Most of my clients haven't found relief. They've been to many different therapist without resolution. They are not interested in medication to resolve their PTSD, CPTSD, anxiety, depression, stress or self-esteem issues and may have considered suicide in the past or used other forms of control behaviour to help them self-regulate their emotions. They typically have experienced childhood trauma through verbal, sexual, neglect and/or physical abuse that has invaded their adult lives. Or, they may have had completely normal childhoods but were, for example, adopted and are dealing with issues of belonging.

Clients often come to me when they decide that survival is no longer enough. Whether it's past trauma, depression, anxiety, disconnection from self, lack of purpose, or lack of hope (etc). As humans, we all carry rocks in our proverbial backpacks. I am awestruck by the human capacity to survive and endure. But sometimes the weight that holds us down becomes so familiar that it is almost comforting. If you are reading this, you have found the courage to ask the question, "What if I allow myself to believe that I deserve better?" I love nothing more than helping clients explore what that might look like, and how to get there.

I've been counselling in private practice in Halifax and Vancouver for over 9 years and my focus is working with adults who suffer from anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression are catch-all phrases for a variety of symptoms and can result from a multitude of causes, and while these are common experiences, they may become problematic if it interferes with our daily living. Anxiety and depression may stem from unresolved experiences such as past trauma, grief and loss events, health issues, relationship problems, workplace challenges, to name just a few.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in North Vancouver. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
