In psychotherapy, I foster a motivation for change and strengthen hope that life can feel meaningful again. In my work with adults, adolescents, and couples I help to develop self-compassion and self-acceptance in the struggle with a wide range of concerns related to: anxiety, depression, stress management, anger management, addiction, self-esteem, grief and loss, relationship and family. I have extensive training and experience working with individuals struggling with the long-term effects of trauma, abuse, and neglect, including the assessment and treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Dissociative Disorders.
I practice from an integrative framework, primarily weaving together relational psychodynamic, systemic, and emotion-focused orientations. We pursue the deepening of experience to bring things to life in sessions so as to facilitate particular modes of emotional processing and meaning-creation, which can inform course of action in life.
I often incorporate cognitive behavioural approaches into treatment, and encourage the development of new problem-solving and communication skills, tools for stress-reduction, emotion regulation, and effective coping strategies to manage external circumstances/events. We continually track how therapy is progressing and openly discuss if we need to change course.
