Alcoholism is a disease. True, it's treatable, but it's still a very legitimate physiological and psychological disease that can fracture not only lives of addicts, but of the family as well. There are two types of alcoholism, the most common being alcohol abuse, where one continuously drinks excessively to the point that their behavior affects and causes problems socially and professionally. Whereas, an alcohol dependent feels a continuous craving for drinking and may suffer light to severe withdrawal symptoms if they stop. Most importantly, alcoholism is a condition that, once recognized, demands a constant personal awareness in order to avoid relapse.
