Is your relationship in need of repair but you don’t know how to help it? Is the intimacy suffering and you're wondering where it went and if it will ever come back? Are you or your partner engaging in sexual activity outside of the relationship and you don’t know if the trust you once had will ever be restored? I understand that sometimes even the strongest relationships get shaken up by crisis or just slowly disintegrate leaving the couple feeling afraid, insecure, and profoundly sad. I help couples restore the intimacy and communication in their relationship by giving them the tools that they can use now and in the future.

I work with women, men or couples with a focus on being present in the body.
I offer a safe, non-judgmental, healing space, to help you understand your soul's unique journey. Do you feel stuck, in conflict or in a crisis? Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or maybe defeated by depression? When you find that talk-only therapy is not shifting you, then you are ready to work at a deeper, core level, working with the implicit memory or history that is in your body. I am a guide that can help you to find your true soul essence and grounded authentic self. This form of body / soul healing and psycho-therapeutic inquiry can support you if you experience • Stress. A difficult life transition • Or a critical illness • Challenging relationships or communication problems • Self-esteem or self-image issues • Emotional or physical abuse • Depression, grief or loss • Despair, hopeless or stuck • Fear, anxiety or panic attacks • Difficulty to feel love, joy or pleasure • Addictions or shame • Accessing or managing anger, or affect regulation • Healthy boundary development or how to say ‘No’ • Emotional or physical trauma • PTSD symptoms • Disconnected or confused spirituality issues • Ungrounded spirituality.

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Do you deal with neurodivergence (ADHD)? Do you have male issues? Or dealing with sexual concerns and not sure what to do or even say? I invite clients to explore and share their feelings and thoughts in a space of curiousity and acceptance. I hope to accommodate the ways that our body internalizes and expresses itself by taking a holistic approach that recognizes these various ways of understanding. This understanding can be stored in the body in various ways—intellectually, behaviourally, somatically (through the body), and even intuitively.

You’re doing all the ‘right’ things to feel better but no matter what you do you’re still feeling out of sorts. Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You feel discouraged that you might not be able to get back to living your life the way you want to. You’re anxious and people notice your ‘bad mood’ which makes you feel guilty for not ‘being better’ for those around you. You’re here which means you want to try something different. You CAN do this.

Accepting new clients- In person and online I have been providing individual, couple, and family therapy for all ages for over 20 years, and I am ready to help you too! I offer traditional talk therapy from my barn office on my beautiful country property, but that's not all! When sitting in an office just doesn't fit, we can go out and work with the horses to get you where you need to be (integrating talk therapy with ground work with horses), or we can talk while we walk the trails of the forest. Let me help you find connection and belonging with yourself, others, and nature. Connection is Everything!

Since the mid-90s, I have worked with singles who fear commitment, gridlocked couples, and parents who worry about their teens. Informed by Bowen Family Systems Theory, I have learned what works (and what to avoid) to foster deeply meaningful relationships. I have published three books on fear of commitment, marriage and family therapy. I live in Toronto, Ontario with my wife - a child psychiatrist - our three boys, some fish and two gerbils.

As a Registered Social Worker with over 14+ years of clinical experience, I specialize in: anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, self-worth and inner critic, identity-based oppression, intergenerational conflict and family of origin issues, sexual orientation, gender identity, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress management and work/life balance.
I foster a safe refuge where you can begin to unpack your lived experiences free from judgment. My approach to therapy is trauma-informed/focused, anti-oppressive, strengths-based and draws from intersectional feminist theory. I integrate mindfulness, CBT, narrative therapy, neuroscience, and mind/body approaches.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
