As a registered social worker, I provide counselling services to youth, adults, couples, and families who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, work-related issues, and changes in relationships.
Are you feeling stuck or overwhelmed? Do you spend your time dwelling on the past, or worrying about the future? Are you experiencing difficulties that keep you from living the life you want to live? We all face hurdles that prevent us from living a more meaningful life and, as your therapist, I can help.

I offer both individual and couples counselling.
Reaching out to start therapy can be anxiety-provoking. It's important to me that you feel comfortable in session and we build a trusting relationship as it's the foundation of therapeutic success. My aim is to help you understand why you feel or behave in the ways that you do and find helpful coping strategies to live a more meaningful life. Therapy goals are based on your priorities and values. In sessions, we will discuss how your feelings, thoughts, trauma or current stressors are impacting your life. I incorporate mindfulness, self-compassion, somatic regulation and value-based actions to work towards your goals.

It can be very difficult to find a therapist who you might feel can be helpful to you. I like to think of therapy as first and most importantly a relationship. Some might have a sense that things are not as they might hope. We live in a time of loneliness, confusion, separation, conflict and it seems our cultural framework that is meant to hold all of this together is failing. At the heart of what is missing for so many is a place of love and belonging. Or perhaps you’ve lost sight of a sense of meaning in your life? Maybe you’ve received recently some deeply troubling news about your own health or the recent loss of a loved one?

In my work with clients, I adopt a compassion-based and solution-focused approach to help individuals, couples, and families work through issues that are affecting their mental and physical health and relationships with others while focusing on decreasing their stress and negativity so that they experience more balance, peace, contentment, and joy.
Are you struggling in this crazy world? Do you feel anxious, sad, frustrated, angry, overwhelmed, and/or tired of it all? Do you feel lost and alone, that no one understands you, that you are fighting your struggles alone? Is it difficult to muster the motivation and energy to do things that you once enjoyed? Are you constantly embroiled in conflict with others? Do you wish things were better, that you felt better, that the pain, sadness, and conflict would go away and be replaced with happiness, peace, contentment, and joy?

My approach is truly eclectic in that I believe there is no such thing as one-size-fits all in a therapeutic relationship.
I have been practicing social work for nearly 15 years and am eternally grateful for the work I am able to do, and the relationships I have been able to form. I have worked in diverse practice areas which have provided me with the knowledge, skills and compassion needed to create meaningful, therapeutic relationships with people. I believe in the value of showing up as my genuine self in sessions with you. My approach is client-centered; I bring a variety of tools to the table, and I believe that you do as well, and our work together will be collaborative and goal driven. I work with young people and adults, as well as couples.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
