My area of expertise include life transitions, early childhood abandonment anxiety, codependency, autism, BPD, ADHD, perfectionism, self esteem and boundary issues, that result from a difficult childhood.
Do you struggle with chronic feelings of emptiness, the fear of abandonment, unstable relationships, a lack of knowing who you are at your core due to a distorted sense of self image and identity, emotional mood swings, social isolation, perfectionistic tendencies, procrastination, social anxiety and the effects of complex post traumatic stress? The effects of these struggles can result in anxiety, issues in relationships with yourself and others, job insecurity, and/or low self-worth. If you answered yes to any of the questions above, please know that you are not alone, and that I am trained to offer you support as a therapist.

Do you ever wonder why you struggle to feel happy? Or notice feelings of resentment? Do you feel overwhelmed with roles, responsibilities, and a to-do list? And underwhelmed with life? You want to feel grateful for what you have. You want to make yourself a priority, but somehow, what you want doesn't seem to matter. You are not alone. Managing self-care, the dynamics of relationships, parenting, and a professional life can easily feel out of balance. Add medical stress, a child with special needs, co-parenting challenges, and/or workplace stress. Perhaps you notice anxiety, fear, or repetitive patterns that you long to change.

Does any of this sound familiar? You survived emotional neglect. You work hard and are independent. Sometimes, your drive has harmed relationships and partnerships. Perhaps your family members struggle with alcohol or addictions. You often feel isolated and "not enough", and could use help from a person who understands these challenges. If you are Neurodivergent, in Recovery; or considering gender transition, I have specific education + experience to support you (Rainbow Health Ontario provider). I am Autistic (AuDHD), adopted, ACE, trans and in a loving marriage. I work, volunteer and learn in Harm Reduction communities.

As a therapist, I want to help you make sense of your current circumstance and guide you through self-exploration, self-awareness, and insight so we can apply therapeutic tools to your unique situation.

No matter how "together" you may appear on the outside, when you are hurting on the inside, life can feel overwhelming and exhausting. Perhaps you move through life with your attention always focused on the world around you that you never leave time to check in with yourself internally. Or perhaps you move through life with your attention so focused on your internal experience that it feels like the world around you is quickly passing you by. Whatever it is that you're experiencing, you’re not alone, and we can navigate it together.

We all go through rough spots in life where we can benefit from time to reflect. These times can also be an opportunity to understand ourselves better, and make sense of harmful patterns. Throughout life, we develop thought and behaviour patterns in our response to stress, in our relationships, and in our daily habits. With effective tools and strategies, we can make sense of them, and let them go. This opens us up to a more authentic and healthy life.

You are feeling so overwhelmed that it's hard to remember what "good" felt like. Some days you wonder if you ever actually felt good. On top of it all the pressures of everyday life haven't just disappeared and you feel stretched with not enough down time. The minor challenges you felt in your life suddenly feel insurmountable. You feel lost - maybe even angry - and dread an uncertain future. While many people feel a little down, frustrated, anxious, and stressed at times, you feel so lost that its hard to imagine that you'll ever feel like the best version of yourself ever again. You feel like you are at the end of your rope.

Codependency Counsellors

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
