As a Social Worker Psychotherapist I work relationally with individuals, and those in partnership with others (including couples and poly dynamics). I am drawn to themes of: shame, sexuality, neurodiversities, grief, and impediments to connection; both to oneself and others. I am queer/bisexual and genderfluid, but you don't have to be, and a person who lives with a long-term invisible chronic illness. I am based in NL but got my start as a therapist Ontario and am registered to provide therapy in 3 provinces (including Nova Scotia). My work is informed by my experiences of working in community mental health and harm reduction.
I have training and experience with: ACT, Sex Therapy, EFT, Narrative Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing. I draw from a few of these approaches in the beginning stages of our work until we arrive at the modality that feels like the best fit for us. I am not someone who practices with a lot of rigid structure and any homework I assign will be experiential.
Research has consistently shown that the main determining factor in whether or not therapy will be effective is the therapist + client relationship. I think therapy is a vulnerable act and an exercise in seeing and being seen. With that said, we will work collaboratively to create a space of mutual safety and non-judgement and then to nurture what unfolds.
