You’re someone who is self-aware and motivated for change, but stuck in patterns that no longer fit. You might notice this in your work, relationships, habits, or sense of direction. On the outside things may look “fine,” but internally something feels off. Many people come in during life shifts, wanting support making clearer, more intentional choices instead of reacting from stress or self-doubt. Together, we look at patterns, emotions, and what’s actually getting in the way so change feels more steady and possible in real life.

I understand that reaching out for help can be daunting, but taking that first step is an act of courage and self-care. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, relational issues or stress, there is hope. You don’t have to face this alone.

Have you noticed yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, sad or stuck? Perhaps you are going through changes in your life and are finding it difficult to cope. Maybe you feel like it's time to make a change. Reaching out for help can be hard, but know you are not alone. I provide non-judgmental space so you can feel comfortable to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I strongly believe in meeting you where you are at, for some it's starting to talk about what has been getting in the way of living your best life, for others it is more active work towards making lasting changes.

Jo Cullen
Counsellor, MEd, CT, CCC
Charlottetown, PE C1A
Jo has been working as a counsellor since 2010, supporting clients from many different walks of life, including children and youth, families, and adults. Having worked with clients across the life-span, she recognized that many of the challenges that youth and adults face stem from developmental trauma. This occurs when individuals do not have their basic physical and/or emotional needs met in early childhood. This led Jo to seek out the best methods to provide early intervention to treat young children who have been impacted by trauma as well as work with their families to prevent further trauma exposure.

Healing from trauma isn't about "fixing" something that's broken within you; it's a profound unravelling of rediscovering and embracing the parts of yourself that have remained hidden in the shadows of fear and chaos. It's about dismantling destructive patterns created out of survival so that you can reconnect and come home to your authentic SELF. It's about learning to live with a full range of experiences and emotions and feeling as though you are capable, worthy, and enough.

I believe therapy should feel human, collaborative, and grounded in the reality of your everyday life. Many of the people I work with are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer feel sustainable — whether that’s within themselves, their relationships, or the life they want to be living. I support individuals and couples navigating anxiety, chronic stress, low mood, and complex emotional or relational challenges with a holistic, integrative approach that looks at the bigger picture. Together, we work toward understanding your needs more clearly, strengthening boundaries, and improving overall health.

Have you been considering therapy but wonder if it will actually help? Have you tried therapy in the past and it wasn't a great fit? My goal as a therapist is to meet people where they are at while offering a safe place to do so. An added bonus? I work with clients from Nova Scotia (online, phone or in person) AND Prince Edward Island (online or phone only). Maybe your child is needing an outlet, somebody to talk to? Perhaps they are having difficulty with big emotions or feeling overwhelmed with big life transitions? I am also an experienced child therapist! As of April 1st, I will be taking on in-person clients down Fredericton. It can be difficult to reach out to a professional to open up about your inner world and learning to trust a therapist can be unnerving. A lot of people see therapy as a one-sided conversation, with little to no opportunity for interaction or authentic connection. Although calling a therapist can be intimidating, I don't believe therapy has to be an intimidating process. I can assure you that as a practitioner, I use a warm empathic approach to connect. Life is too precious to surrender to unhealthy relationships, low self-worth, addiction, and trauma.
