Life's journey can be challenging for those who find themselves in the demanding role of a caregiver. Whether you are supporting children, adults, or older adults, the role of caregiving often requires one to give deeply of themselves. Caregiver stress, burden, and burnout are common. With a deep passion for fostering mental and emotional health and resilience, I bring a wealth of experience and person- and family-centered approach to caregiver support. As a seasoned support, I understand the many unique challenges that caregivers face.

Accepting new clients! Your thoughts never stop, you have a permanent pit in your stomach, and life feels both overwhelmingly busy, yet empty at the same time. You do your best to manage the constant anxiety spirals about school, work, friends, your body, your relationship, and/or the future, but the relief you get from scrolling social media, drinking/smoking/eating, and pushing your thoughts away is temporary. Everyone keeps telling you "you just need to try harder/be less lazy/stop worrying!" but you feel that's all you are ever trying to do! Exhausting, isn't it? Let's chat about how we can shift this.

As a parent, do you often ask yourself how you could do things differently, feeling guilty or ashamed about the way you manage family situations? Struggling with cycles of negative emotion can leave you feeling alone, anxious, and depressed. Perhaps you feel disconnected from yourself, your partner, and/or your children, and you wish your family dynamic could come together more easily. Practicing acceptance and establishing emotional safety may seem like impossible feats, but know that there is a way.

I believe that everyone is doing their best at any given moment and that everyone has the ability to heal. Many people I work with are tired of old patterns of behaviours, thoughts and beliefs interfering in their lives. They hold a curiosity about wanting to learn more about their emotions, relationships with others and their inner world. With compassion, I support individuals to engage in exploring how such patterns, thoughts and beliefs are held within the body, impacting their relationship with themselves and others.

There may be times that you don't have the relationships you wanted or envisioned for yourself. Sometimes the relationship you struggle with the most is the one with yourself. Feelings & emotions, even ones that seem small, can get heavy & can leave you feeling unloved or unlovable, unworthy, & with a distorted view of yourself. You may even feel as though you have no control of your life & powerless to change it. Working together, we can explore what is causing things to be this way; & more importantly, we can tap into your strengths & set you on a path to have the relationships you want & deserve.

Many people have found themselves in the exact place you now find yourself – wondering if they should seek the guidance of a professional counsellor for personal, marital or family problems. Here are some of their uncomfortable self-reflections: “Tensions always hover over my relationship with my partner.” “I want to be a better parent.” “I do not look forward to going to work anymore.” “My partner and I keep getting stuck when we try to talk about our problems.” “I want to enjoy being a parent, but often I do not.” “I want to feel happiness and gratitude for my life and the people in it, but I cannot get there.”

We all go through rough spots in life where we can benefit from time to reflect. These times can also be an opportunity to understand ourselves better, and make sense of harmful patterns. Throughout life, we develop thought and behaviour patterns in our response to stress, in our relationships, and in our daily habits. With effective tools and strategies, we can make sense of them, and let them go. This opens us up to a more authentic and healthy life.

I provide my clients with a safe, welcoming and judge-free environment to discuss their most personal and intimate life struggles. Im honoured they trust me to help guide them. My focus is on helping people build healthy relationships, because when our connections are authentic we thrive. What’s more, our sense of love and belonging is fundamental to reaching our potential. In my 10 years of private practice, I’ve noticed people generally struggle with effective communication, lack of healthy boundaries, assertiveness and most of us question our intuition. I have experience in individual, couple, and family counselling.

People see you as dependable, organized, and always smiling. Someone they can always rely on for help or support, someone who will always make time for other's. But on the inside you feel like a fraud, overwhelmed, exhausted from trying to keep up this charade, and even resentful at times.

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients with an assortment of concerns throughout the first two years of my career and look forward to helping more. I take pride in being able to help clients assess where improvements are needed and strengths are present. I tailor our sessions based on your needs while pulling from various therapeutic modalities. I most commonly support clients through the use of CBT, DBT, solution focused strategies and ultimately, a person centered approach. As a young male I have had a lot of success helping males with male related issues.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
