I also work in Brainspotting.
I accompany clients from a place of compassion, creativity, warmth, and humour as they move from the wounds of interpersonal, systemic, and intergenerational trauma (e.g., neglect, identity-based violence, childhood or intimate partner violence, premature death) towards fulfilling lives rooted in posttraumatic growth. In addition to working with clients who have experienced trauma and its related effects, I also work with clients who identify as experiencing stress (including anxiety disorders), sadness or depression, persistent guilt and shame, life transitions, grief, and existential questions related to life purpose and identity.

I did my MA in Counselling and Spirituality and since then have taken trainings on trauma, Brainspotting, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, and suicide intervention.
Trauma, anxiety, depression, family and relational conflict, anger, sadness, numbness, burnout, relational issues, grief, I am here to meet with you and figure out a path to healing. Sometimes we can feel so stuck in our situation and need to have someone help us navigate it. A new perspective and nonjudgemental space can help us feel more free to reflect on ourselves, how we got to this place in life and allow space to imagine how our life can be more fulfilling and free. I am here to help you process the painful memories and emotions, explore patterns you feel stuck in and find new ways of managing issues in your life.

I am a a a queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, feminist, and cisgender white woman. I am committed to anti-oppression, social justice, and the self-reflection and lifelong unlearning this requires. I have been practicing social work since 2012 with a focus on issues related to queer and trans folks, body neutrality, harm reduction, and body-based trauma recovery modalities. I am most excited about working with folks who are queer and trans, neurodiverse, non-monogamous, and those looking to utilize EMDR for trauma recovery. As a relationship-based therapist, I do ask for a minimum of a biweekly commitment.

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?

Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?

Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?

A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
