There are times in our lives that we cannot get a handle on the challenges in our life. Sometimes our genetics play a role, i.e. intergenerational traumas, and other times, life, and all its stressors gets overwhelming. For some, systemic barriers exist that impede a capacity for wellness. During these times, it is helpful to work with a trained therapist to support you as you find your way back to your healing, happiness and inner peace. Therapy is a process of growth, unlearning, and self-discovery. In my therapy sessions, I promote behavioral transformation and inner peace by encouraging curiosity, compassion and acceptance.

My specialized training and experience over the past 2 decades include but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavior; Individual and Group Therapy; CBT and Mindfulness blend; Resiliency; Advanced Facilitation trainer; Mindfulness Teacher Training Certification; Sport for Life Mentor; Positive Space Ambassadorship, Advocacy for Gender; BIPOC Focused; Life Coach.
Whether we identify as male, female, transgendered, non-binary, mother, father, or other. I know one thing for sure; we are humans playing a part in this game of life. We all practice being human, unconsciously and/or consciously. We all experience life's most difficult trials and troubles and yes, we also experience joy. This is immutable. Given this reality, how can we live our life optimally, rich with purpose and fulfillment while balancing the curve balls, the numbness, the stress, the cravings, or the hurt? The truth is, you can do it. We can do it together. Sometimes all you need is a patient helping hand.

My therapeutic and corrective approach is, Solution Focused and Client-Centered, drawn from my experience in Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Healing and recovery begin with acceptance. Choosing peace over chaos. Life often takes unpredictable turns and no one is immune from adversities. Despite our best efforts, we often need a ladder or a bridge to assist us to connect, reconnect, recover, discover, to achieve self-actualization and empowerment. I recognize that Everyone is unique, every situation is exceptional and there is no one size fits all solution. I provide a safe space within which you may initiate your self-actualization and empowerment. Together, we foster hope and develop the expectation of change, within a sphere of hope, motivation and determination.

I have found using Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Techniques, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, have given clients hope, healing, and a real path to the wellness they are seeking.
Do you find that your emotions are getting the best of you? Do you find that your goals and purpose are frequently uprooted by the anxiety, depression, or anger of the day? Wondering how we can change for the better doesn't have to be a dream only! Even with the best of intentions anxiety and depression can and do often get the best of us. Many of us imagine and envision a different kind of life where peace, serenity and purpose prevail. Learning strategies to break the cyle and to reclaim your life can be truely liberating, and accomplished with therapy!

Clients seeking my help have difficulty coping, and feel emotionally overloaded; but they are also ready for a change. Their distress can create anxiety and depression that results in negative thoughts, which influence your behavior and emotions. Avoiding unpleasant emotions can cause harm and inappropriate reactive behaviors. Emotional and psychological support for issues involving depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, relationship issues, self-improvement, are some of the stressors I work with. Through counselling we can focus on your needs and set goals that will ultimately give you tools to cope with life on life's terms.

Behavioural Issues Counsellors

What happens in therapy for behavioural issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behaviour issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioural issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioural issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioural concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behaviour management, often used when the underlying cause of behaviour issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioural issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behaviour issues?

Studies show that therapy for behaviour issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behaviour later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behaviour. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
