I work virtually with people navigating life transitions, grief and loss, neurodivergence (especially autism and ADHD), gender and sexual diversity, self-harm, anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I strive to create a space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. My approach is person-centered and relational, meaning I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you with curiosity and compassion as we explore your experiences, understand what may be keeping you stuck, and work toward goals that feel meaningful and aligned with who you are.

Welcome, my name is Sandra Hinter, Sam, and Elemental Paths is my counselling program. I want to share with you what I believe is meaningful work that helps to promote change. My first step is to build a relationship in which you will be encouraged to share with me what your concerns/challenges are, from here we explore your strengths and interests and build on them. I offer sessions while walking, in my car, in the presence of horses, dogs, or hiking. I believe that the outdoors unlocks something in each of us that fosters a sense of freedom, control, and safety. I am mobile and able to come to you.

Hello my name is Alisa Watts. My primary clients are adults with ADHD or caregivers of neurodivergent children who feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure where to start. They may struggle with organization, emotional regulation, school systems or the constant demands of daily life. They're not looking to be "fixed" they want practical strategies, clearer direction, and support that actually fits their reality. Together, we focus on strengths, build sustainable skills, and create supports that make life feel more manageable, confident, and meaningful.

Counselling is a journey of exploration and finding a counsellor that you connect with is the first and most important step. What a courageous step you're taking, to reach out for help. I honour what you've been through to bring you to this moment. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed with life and trying to "hold it all together", or maybe your needs are falling to the bottom of the priority list. Maybe you notice patterns in your life that keep repeating such as perfectionism, negative self-talk, destructive behaviours, unsatisfying relationships, or mindlessly distracting yourself. If you yearn to: know and trust yourself more deeply, be more gentle and tender with yourself, and feel the freedom to be yourself, I am here to support your journey.

If you’ve found yourself here, something in you is ready for support — or perhaps simply for things to feel a little lighter, clearer, or more manageable. That in itself takes courage. As your counsellor, I offer a compassionate space where you don’t have to explain or defend yourself — a place where you can speak freely and be truly heard. I meet you with unconditional acceptance while gently encouraging self-reflection, not by telling you what to do, but by helping you reconnect with your own inner knowing.

Many people who find their way to my practice have already tried therapy. They're insightful, capable, and functional, yet still feel shaped by old relational patterns, chronic self-doubt, or a sense that something unresolved keeps showing up despite their best efforts. The work I do invites people to slow down and look closely at how their inner world has been organized by relationships, long-standing adaptations, and nervous system patterns. This is not short-term therapy. Sessions are relational, reflective, and often require tolerating discomfort as familiar strategies soften and new ways of relating to yourself emerge.

Life is messy. It's hard. It can feel complicated. It can feel confusing. Sometimes heavy burdens of grief, trauma and anxiety cloud our ability to think and relate to others. Sometimes you feel numb. Sometimes you feel hyper vigilant. I wonder if you might be looking for a non judgmental or non biased space to process life events and the struggles of your mind, body and heart? Maybe you need a space to learn why you feel the way you do or think the way you think? Perhaps you are wondering will I ever feel better? Will I ever feel connected to myself and others?

Twenty plus years ago my dream was to work with people in a way that would enhance their lives. I envisioned an environment that would provide an opportunity to develop creative problem-solving abilities. I envisioned an environment that would enhance tolerance, flexibility, and adaptability. I continue, to this day, to make this dream a reality. And...I believe I have done so. My work is centered around enhancing the lives of the individual, the couple, the family, and the extended family. I am very proud of the Kamloops Centre for Therapy. It, like myself, has evolved over the years.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
