Do you value relationships and feel you would like to be more confident in yourself? Our challenges can be our greatest teachers but they may feel overwhelming when we try to face them alone, especially if we have suffered through trauma. If you have emotional injuries in need of healing or a relationship you wish to bring closer, by exploring these issues we may uncover hidden resources and new possibilities. We may work through unconscious beliefs or hidden traumas along the way. By supporting ourselves in new ways, we can free ourselves from old fears and become more of who we truly are.

With over 30 years of service in the Canadian Forces and eight years working in a women’s trauma counselling program, I bring insights about trauma and the complex challenges life can present. Unresolved trauma can show up in ways that don’t always make sense at first. Maybe you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. You’re not alone, and what you’re feeling makes sense in light of what you’ve been through. My job is to help you understand why you may be feeling the way you do—and to equip you with practical strategies for healing and moving forward.

Sometimes life is hard and we don't know how to manage our current challenges. It's important to realize that you're not alone and support IS out there. Whether you're finally ready to face past traumas, dealing with depression and anxiety, crippled by grief, lacking self-worth, or struggling with addictions, there can be an end to your suffering. That end includes remaking your life, your relationships, and sometimes your very identity. Though it may not feel like it now, you are on an exciting journey! With a little guidance, you can make it through.

Let me guess, there's a part of you that wants to try out counselling and another that is skeptical of whether it will work. Perhaps you tried it before and it seemed like a waste of time and money. As a skeptic myself, I'm amazed at the inner healing I've experienced after finding the right counsellor! As a trained trauma therapist, my aim is to connect with you on a deep level so you can feel safe, seen and secure in each session. Together, we can come up with a plan to achieve your goals and work through your deepest issues, whether that be unresolved PTSD, trauma, addiction, grief, anxiety, or depression.

Are you a high-performing business professional, executive leader, or entrepreneur who is ready to reach your next level, but feels stuck at a certain ceiling, or feels like you’re slowly starting to crack. Maybe you’ve noticed yourself becoming more reactive, especially at home. Dreading visibility or high-stakes moments in your career. Struggling to switch off after work. You’re still succeeding, but it's at a high cost: over-preparing, over-functioning, and pushing harder just to maintain your standards. And underneath it all, there’s a quiet, persistent pressure: If you slow down, everything you’ve worked for could slip away.

When you notice there is something getting in the way of living your best life, remember that the “obstacle is the way”. This means that the way to the life you want is through this difficulty, which can become an entryway into more of what you want. I am here to help you move through obstacles until they become the way towards your best life. My goal as a therapist is to help people live a more balanced and connected life. I’m in my element as I create a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental counseling environment, where people can explore the complexities of their lives. I work with clients from a holistic perspective.

Have you ever wondered: How much of my problem is me generated and how much is other people or circumstances? You know you are responsible for making changes in your life and yet things happen that make that change seemingly impossible. How can I change my private self and how I relate outwardly? Can I move from victim to survivor, from bully to challenger from rescuer to supporter even when the world and those around me don't cooperate? It's a question worth exploring. Spoiler Alert! It's very possible!

At times feelings, or life circumstances become so intense or painful, we become desperate to find ways to fix, avoid, or control them. We may get stuck in worry and self-doubt, avoid meaningful activities, feel unable to let go of control, withdraw from relationships, shut down feelings, ruminate on past hurts, escape into TV, the internet, video games, drugs or alcohol, or get pulled into compulsive or impulsive behaviours. What was meant to fix the problem, ends up making it worse. As life becomes about controlling feelings, it becomes less about what is really important to us - our values and passions.

We all go through times when we feel quietly lost—like we have drifted from who we truly are. Maybe you have spent years showing up for others, doing the right thing, staying strong. I have been there too—until I could no longer hear my own voice. If you are tired or longing for something more, you are not alone. You do not need to have it all figured out. This is where I begin—by offering you a space to exhale the weight you have been carrying, to feel, to just be. Not to fix you, but to gently walk beside you as you find your way back home to yourself.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
