What I hear most in my practise is that people want more meaning in their lives, in their work and in their loving relationships. According to current trends, anxiety and depression is on the rise. According to the Canadian Mood Disorders report 2008, 1 in 5 Canadians will have a mental illness over their lifetime. We may have become too focused on the results and lost sight of the process. The better we feel about ourselves because we are practising great lifestyle habits and relating meaningfully, soulfully, the more in the 'zone' we feel day to day.

Perhaps you've been struggling with relationship issues, or have been impacted by a narcissist and have been stuck in webs of gaslighting, or you're are reaching out for support for other concerns, including partner sexual betrayal trauma, depression, grief and loss counselling, separation & divorce, and mid-life issues.
There is no single therapeutic approach that could possibly 'fit' every person. Although many issues being addressed in therapy may, at some level, appear the same, individuals' experiences, and their interpretation of those experiences are often very different, so I'm committed to identifying an approach that fits each client.

I know there are times when it feels as if you are sitting in a dark space, waiting for a glimpse of joy. You may be seeking it in your job, income, relationships, or a variety of other external sources; and yet, it seems unreachable. Growing up with several traumas and experiencing severe depression led me to seek my identity in a high profile title in society. As a lawyer with a Master’s degree, I was not happy. Then I faced the tragic loss of my beloved friend. This pain, shook my belief system: How could I live, despite life's difficulties? Life showed me that painful experiences will always open doors to new paths.

There are times in life when coping on your own is no longer enough. You might feel overwhelmed, emotionally fatigued, or not quite like yourself, even though you continue to meet the demands of daily life. Or maybe you’re a parent, watching your teen pull away — overwhelmed, anxious, angry, or shutting down — and you’re not sure how to support them. Hi I’m Yegi, a Registered Clinical Counsellor and founder of InnerPeace Counselling & Neurofeedback. I work with individuals, youth, families and first responders stuck in survival mode and are ready to understand themselves on a deeper level.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
