Do you feel like you're surviving instead of living? Are you overthinking and obsessing over things that seem easy for others? I teach people of all ages to worry less, quiet the noise, and take their lives back. This is your life, lets make it what you want. I am a clinical counsellor and certified child and adolescent anxiety treatment professional, and I am currently accepting new clients in person and online.

If you’re living with the pain of religious trauma, complex PTSD, OCD, or a strained relationship with food and your body, you may feel disconnected from yourself, from others, or from your values.
In my work with clients I often use EMDR (currently working toward level 2 certification), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I also integrate CBT techniques for tinnitus and hyperacusis. My style is collaborative and relational - I believe therapy works best when we tailor it to your needs, values, and strengths.

I’m Sunny (she/her), a therapist who specializes in helping people who are kind to everyone but themselves. You might find yourself constantly showing up for others while quietly feeling unseen, disconnected, or insecure. I know how exhausting that feels, and I’m truly glad you’re here. I support individuals struggling with anxiety, self-criticism, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, or trauma, as well as couples who love each other but feel stuck and disconnected. My approach is gentle, relational, and trauma-informed, integrating parts work, EMDR, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

I want to get to know what is important to you, so that I can support you towards your personal goals. Our first session will be focused on identifying what you hope to get out of counselling. From there, I draw on my various training and experience to move us forward. You should have a clear idea of what we are doing, as well as measurable outcomes at the end of our time together. Whether it's learning some new skills, or delving into an underlying pattern, I am curious about and compassionate towards your unique experience.

Welcome! Modern-day motherhood is often painted as a beautiful and purely joyous season of life; this myth can leave both mothers and fathers vulnerable to the unexpected events, uncertainty, stress and worry that can occur along the path to and through parenthood. The truth? Parenthood is comprised of both magical moments and challenging hiccups; parental support is essential. My virtual practice provides individual counselling to mothers (and their partners) residing in British Columbia, Canada. Treatment is available from pre-conception, through fertility, loss, pregnancy, birth, the postpartum year, and into early parenthood.

Is your child or adolescent overly anxious as they struggle with low-self esteem and a lack of confidence? You may be observing them figuring out who they are and are exploring different facets of their identity, including questions around gender, sexuality, and how they express themselves in their clothing choices. During this process, they may be having difficulty making or maintaining positive relationships with those around them. At home or school, overwhelming feelings of worry and frustration are becoming harder to deal with and your child is in need of support. I can support your child to thrive through all of these changes.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
