Using the Somatic Experiencing model of therapy, I support clients who suffer from symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hyper-vigilance, difficulty sleeping, headaches, chronic pain, trouble paying attention, and numbness; they may feel disconnected from life. When the nervous system comes back to a state of rest and balance, clients have greater access to a range of feelings and sensations (joy, optimism), a sense of being grounded and connection to self, a greater ability to make choices and to develop health-supporting internal and external boundaries.

My work primarily supports men, youth (8+) through adulthood, developing awareness, insight, and skills to support growth. Whether it be noticing and conceptualizing emotions for the first time, or sharpening skills to better support emotional expression, a space is created for you to lean into your areas of development and learn to communicate your needs. We talk about emotions, how to communicate effectively, regulation techniques, the importance of routine, and how the seasons impact our experience.

Sometimes there is a gap between where we are and where we want to be or who we think we could be. Feeling this gap can be emotionally and physically draining. It’s difficult to be present in our lives when we feel consumed by the pain within us. It’s hard to know what to do next and even when the next step is clear, it may feel impossible to take it. My approach to therapy is gentle, supportive, and relational with an aim to reduce the need for coping mechanisms and to heal at the source. The training that I take reflects my personal belief that therapy is a place to come back to your integrated self.

Hi there, my name is Sophie. When working with individuals, I believe the therapeutic relationship is essential to creating a safe environment where clients can be vulnerable and begin to explore areas of their lives where they may be struggling. Working collaboratively with clients, a large part of my work is creating safety within oneself and finding that inner peace. I help clients in areas such as confidence building, boundary setting, self esteem, perfectionism, people pleasing, assertiveness, and identity exploration. I have over 5 years experience working in non-profits, crisis-response and community-led cooperatives.

Everyone struggles with something. We can’t control every thought, feeling, or body sensation we have, but we can find ways to create balance and choice in how we live our lives, particularly during times of stress, uncertainty, and overwhelm. In our sessions, you can expect to develop skills that can help you tune in to your inner experiences with curiosity and compassion, while keeping “who you are” at the centre of the process. Regardless of what we focus on, please know that you can show up to our sessions just as you are. You’ll find an environment where every part of you is seen, heard, and welcome.

When painful thoughts and emotions show up, it can be like trying to find our way through a fog. It’s hard to live the way we want to when anxiety makes our mind spin in circles, when shame hangs on us like a dead weight, and when our inner voice is constantly questioning and criticizing. As painful as they are, these feelings are here to show us that something needs to change. By listening to them and working through them together, we can clear the path to a life that is manageable and fulfilling. In my practice, I work with adults to help them find that path.

Life can be overwhelming, painful and isolating. These struggles may show up as constant anxiety, panic, chronic fatigue, loneliness, fearing the worst, dreading the days ahead, being critical of yourself, never feeling good enough and obsessive thinking. Often I support individuals experiencing repetitive issues and unhelpful patterns. These may show up in their relationship with themselves and others, at work, school or in their parenting. If you are a parent struggling to support your child, or If you are feeling stuck, limited, or are suffering alone - you could likely benefit from support. You don't have to do it alone!
