I work with individuals and couples who are managing a great deal on the outside—careers, relationships, responsibilities—while internally feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or alone. Many are navigating infertility, IVF, or pregnancy loss, as well as anxiety, burnout, or relationship strain. I also support expats and those relocating to Mexico who are adjusting to life between cultures, often without familiar support systems. With over 30 years of clinical experience, I help clients make sense of complex emotional experiences and move forward with greater clarity and stability.

Somatic Counselling, Psychedelic Integration & Intuitive Healing. I am not currently accepting new long term clients. I continue to offer short-term therapy and psychedelic integration. I work with people who have done significant inner work and sense there is still something essential waiting to be accessed. For over 20 years, I have supported healing and growth through somatic therapy, expressive and arts-based approaches, and psychedelic-assisted therapy and integration. While the mind seeks understanding, the body knows the way to real change. Through the body’s somatic felt sense, clarity, resonance, and inner truth emerge.

While my work is strongly rooted in a psychodynamic theoretical framework, I am adaptive and trained in several modalities that can be integrated.
Life can throw challenges our way that feel overwhelming and unmanageable. Coming to a realization that we could use help, and seeking a therapist are big steps. The therapeutic relationship offers a unique space to look at and discuss deeply personal content in a safe, non-judgmental environment. It can feel like a big risk to open up about our struggles. I encourage anyone seeking therapy to search for a therapist that they feel comfortable with. I believe it is my job to foster trust and safety so that we can work through difficult feelings. From my perspective, there is no definitive ranking of problems.

Toby Macklin, Counselling for Men
Counsellor, MA, RCC

I specialize in counselling for men in their 20s, 30s and 40s who experience anxiety, depression, anger, addictive behaviours, and ADHD. You may be unhappy in your work or your relationships, and likely struggle with a harsh internal critic. Perhaps you’ve realized that events in the past continue to impact you and are preventing you from living the way you want to. Many men have suffered childhood trauma, including physical, verbal and emotional, or sexual abuse. Even “mild” dysfunction in families can deeply affect a child’s sense of worth, which carries over into adulthood, affecting every aspect of their lives.

My ideal clients are adolescents, adults, and couples who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, often after long periods of stress, responsibility, or adversity. Many are first responders, military members, men, or professionals who are used to coping on their own, but now find trauma, anxiety, burnout, depression, or relationship strain affecting their school, work, health, or relationships. They are seeking more than short-term relief, they want clarity, stability, and meaningful, sustainable change that helps them feel more grounded, connected, and capable in their lives.

I see the therapy room as a place where people discover that "home" is an internal state. Trust is difficult, and it can feel like an immeasurable risk to explore the most vulnerable of spaces: your innermost thoughts and feelings. I seek to understand my clients' experiences and see the world as you do. Not all clients are alike, and I aim to tailor my approach to the needs and worldviews of each client. I describe my approach to therapy as integrative with a collaborative stance and an emphasis (where appropriate) on interpersonal and existential issues.

Therapy for Anxiety, Rumination, and Disordered Eating Patterns in Teens & Adults. I’m a therapist working in the Westshore supporting those who feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, anxiety, and difficulty with control. Many of the clients I work with experience persistent rumination, chronic worry, and a sense of being caught in their thoughts. These patterns can feel repetitive and difficult to interrupt, often leading to stress, avoidance, or feeling mentally “stuck.” I also support clients experiencing disordered eating patterns, including chronic dieting, emotional eating, food-related anxiety, and feeling out of control.

Hello and welcome. I specialize in three main (often overlapping) areas: addictions, neurodivergence and complex trauma. As a therapist, my goal is to help you understand who you are and to help you make sense of what happened to you, so that you can move forward in a more conscious and intentional way. Beyond self-awareness, I believe the purpose of therapy is to transform the negative emotional patterns and beliefs that have been influencing your thoughts, behaviours and relationships.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
