You might be an adult who feels stuck in cycles of anxiety, low mood, or emotional overwhelm — wondering why you can't just "get it together." Maybe you and your partner keep having the same fights, or you're carrying grief or a life change that's heavier than you expected. What I want you to know is this: it's not a character flaw. It's your nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do to keep you safe. Together, we'll work to understand those patterns — and gently, at your pace, begin to change them.

Working with me is a process of honestly confronting our internal world in a non-judgemental way. Together we can work towards authenticity and a genuine relationship with ourselves and others. Counselling entails finding ways to manage our experiences while changing the underlying issues that perpetuate them. Sometimes, growth means overcoming obstacles through practical work, and sometimes it making sense of our challenges within the broader unfolding of our lives. For affordable counselling options, I supervise Master-level counselling interns through yourpathcounselling.ca

In psychotherapy, we work through our unique stories and struggles, build emotional resilience, and develop greater insight into our selves. Working with a psychotherapist allows us to safely reckon with our destructive patterns, and to begin to weave new patterns that better support us. We deepen our awareness of our inner worlds, and in the process, we transform our relationships with ourselves and with each other.

With over 35 years of experience working with people, I have a deep appreciation of our human needs. These arise naturally as we each strive to become our differentiated authentic self while also forming meaningful, satisfying relationships with others. Whether you are coming to therapy as an individual, with your partner as a couple, or with family member(s), my primary intention is to attune to the perspectives, feelings, and needs you bring to the situation. I am process-oriented in my approach, and have found that creating a space to listen more deeply to oneself and each other creates new possibilities for growth.

Perhaps you’re feeling out of balance: in a state of overwhelm, underwhelm, or struck in patterns that hinder your wellbeing. My work considers how early attachment experiences shape present day functioning, and how working somatically can shift ones being. Early life experiences inform how we relate to, and make sense of, ourselves, others, and the world around us. We become guided by these patterns, or implicit memories, showing up in the form of sensations, feelings, thoughts, behavioural impulses, and expectations. These experiences live below our conscious awareness: seemingly invisible, yet oftentimes pervasive.

Your own life story is more powerful than you may know. Beneath your conscious identity are deeper narratives, inherited, imagined, or unconsciously lived, about who you are and what your life is meant to be. In our work, we will begin to make sense of your individual myth and examine the inner story as an invitation for insight, integration, and individuation. People often arrive at this work during threshold moments - at a crossroads, where transition calls for inward listening; in a valley, where energy wanes; or in a desert, where meaning feels out of reach. Together, we will navigate these passages and find a new way forward.

I specialize in 2 main areas: •. Supporting neurodivergent kids and teens who want a creative way to express and integrate learning. •. Helping adults who are learning about their past/present, and want to move into a future with insight and acceptance. I offer individual counselling and music therapy for children, teens, and adults, currently accepting online clients only. I’m constantly blending the art and science of mental health. Foremost to my work with clients is establishing a solid relationship, that feels safe and invigorating. Then we focus/refocus on doing the work, of feeling, thinking and living better.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
