I have worked extensively with mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety in both youth and adults, as well as grief and loss, relationship issues, major life transitions, parenting concerns, perfectionism and self-harm.
Accepting New Clients. Sometimes we all feel stuck. Our go-to methods of coping aren't working anymore, or we aren't getting what we need from those we usually turn to. Sometimes we need a space to be heard and other times we want someone to help us set some goals and take those first steps. In working with youth, individuals and families I bring curiosity, gentleness, humour and compassion along with knowledge of many therapeutic modalities which allows me to be flexible and tailor our work together to your specific needs.

I love working with parents and caregivers on the challenges you face, and with you and your child on the underlying reasons for their behaviour.
I work with all ages, from young children and their parents, to youth and adults. I use Internal Family Systems Therapy (or "parts" work), somatic therapy and Synergetic Play Therapy. The foundation of therapy is the same for all ages; together we build a strong relational container, explore what feels challenging, and create space for change.

Whether you are a parent, part of a couple, or caring for someone that needs you
You need to not feel so overwhelmed, in order to be present for another, and for your relationship. You might want to come see me as part of a couple, or on your own. However you move forward, whether or not they want their own help, you want to learn more about how to help yourself.

ARE YOU A TEEN, OR A PARENT OF A TEEN?
I am passionate about supporting parents and youth through what is often a tumultuous stage, and can often be traumatic for individuals and families. Having an experienced professional outside your family system who can really hear you, and help you thrive during these years can provide you with renewed hope, options, and potentially stronger relationships.

My teens and twenties were some of the toughest times in my life - and the worst part was that everyone else seemed to be managing while I was struggling to get out of bed. I felt lost and alone and wasn’t sure where to turn to get the help and support I needed, which is why I love supporting young people now today. If you’re struggling with your mood, feeling anxious, lost, overwhelmed, or confused talking to someone can bring clarity and help guide you to the next right thing.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
