I provide psychological, psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessments for children, youth and adults. An assessment can be useful in order to understand the nature of an individual's learning needs, certain behaviours, and/or emotional challenges. It can provide specific diagnoses (e.g. ADHD, Specific Learning Disabilities, Anxiety), or simply help to identify a person's strengths and any weaknesses. Ultimately, the goal of an assessment is to make recommendations that will promote wellbeing and help an individual to be successful. In addition to assessments, I also offer some individual therapy and parenting support.

Is your child struggling at school? Are teachers raising concerns that they may have a learning issue, or attention problems, or other issues that are interfering with their ability to be successful at school? Or is your child showing signs of emotional issues, and you wonder if it's normal or whether it might be something more serious, like depression, an anxiety disorder, or distorted thinking?

My passion is to support neurodiverse and any children/youth who are just trying to grow up and figure out life in their own unique way. We are all complex and different, so I strive to honor that along with build upon our own strengths. No one is perfect, but there is always room to grow. If we can build these tools early, what is more fulfilling than seeing our young ones find their true selves and flourish to their full potential? Let's cultivate resilient souls, in a harsh world. I additionally love to support parents who just want the best for their children, along with anyone trying to find their way through this life journey.

Life is not easy is it. Ridiculously so at times. No one can get through it alone, but it can be hard to find the right people to navigate it with sometimes. Perhaps I'm one of your people! I have 15 years of experience in various roles supporting people of all walks of life - most recently working with those experiencing life altering illness and persistent pain. I also have worked with those who are facing life transition, depression, anxiety, chronic stress, the effects of colonial violence, and relationship challenges. I believe it is critical to offer you immensely practical, compassionate, trauma-informed, and hopeful counsel.

Welcome! Through a relational and collaborative approach, I work with children, youth, adults, and parents/caregivers who are experiencing challenges related to stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, parenting, prenatal/postpartum changes, and peer and family relationships. In this current landscape, with many things vying for our attention, we struggle to process information, find our strengths, build agency, and remain connected with our community, our world, and nature. The therapy process offers us the opportunity to reframe our beliefs and behaviours, see new possibilities, and explore hope and reconnection.

Relationships are hard. Whether you are a parent, part of a couple, or caring for someone that needs you ... it may be the most important job you've taken on. But the two of you aren't getting along. You're beating yourself up, because you keep screwing up your job, when all you want to do is make things better for both of you. Are either of you neurodivergent? If so, you might even be coping with your own issues, and/or while trying to help them with theirs. You're scared of the future, and sometimes angry at the other person. You're lonely and even burnt out, because others don't understand.

Do you live with sensory sensitivity, a mood disorder, or a developmental or physical disability? Have your diverse needs caused significant changes or loss related to your health, spirituality, work, status, hobbies, or social life? In the most challenging of times, it’s easy to lose touch with your sense of self, safety, and hope; it can be hard to see where you have choice. But what if you could lighten the burden you carry — a little at a time — creating more space in your life for the things that nourish you? What if you gained more clarity around the choices you can make to start building a new life experience?

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
