Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP), a specific form of CBT, has proven to be the 'gold standard' evidence-based treatment for OCD.
I have a specific area of practice - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. OCD is considered to be a debilitating, chronic, and sneaky condition. OCD often latches on to what is most sacred and cherished to us. It can cause us to question our morals, values, and beliefs. Much time and energy is then spent trying to gain relief from doubt, uncertainty, and distress. Breaking cycles of Obsessions and Compulsions is key to regaining intention, peace, and freedom.

I draw from approaches like Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure & Response Prevention ( ERP) and Gottman Couples Therapy to help you respond effectively to difficult thoughts, feelings, situations and interpersonal dynamics.
If it seems like the tide you’ve been swimming against your whole life just turned into a tsunami, you’re not alone. Whether you're suffering with chronic stress or burnout, held hostage by debilitating anxiety or obsessions and compulsions, struggling in romantic relationships, or just grappling with an increasingly hostile and frightening world, it can all just feel like too much, way too much of the time. And, especially if you're queer, trans, non-monogamous, neurodivergent, disabled, chronically ill or otherwise outside the box, it can be hard to know where to go to get the support and care you need.

If you’re overwhelmed by anxious thoughts, caught in overthinking, or feeling disconnected from your emotions, I’m really glad you’re here. Many of my clients describe feeling foggy, exhausted, or frustrated that they “should” be coping better but can’t seem to. Anxiety, avoidance, and OCD are just some that can quietly shape your days, making work, friendships, and routines feel heavier than they should. Together, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what’s happening inside, and support you in reconnecting with a steadier, more flexible version of yourself.

Therapy requires a strong trusting relationship between therapist and client, in a space that is safe and receptive to honest thoughts and feelings. Trust also builds over time, as the therapy brings more peace, happiness, and clarity to your life. I bring my full presence and compassion to first understanding your experience and then applying my expertise to helping you. I understand that some people seek out a therapist to address a specific mental health concern while others are looking for more general support to improve their lives and happiness. In all cases the relationship between client and therapist is critical.

We all long for and deserve to be seen and known. I offer curious and compassionate witnessing––walking alongside clients as they learn to see themselves in a new light, ask new questions and find meaningful answers. Clients often initiate therapy in the midst of change. They may be grappling with questions of personal identity, family history or unhelpful patterns of behaviour. I most often work with highly sensitive individuals, childhood emotional neglect, avoidance in relationships, depression, isolation, overwhelming emotions, identity curiosities, perinatal/parenting struggles, creative blocks and/or childhood trauma.

I’m a second generation European settler, an explorer of nature, a knitter, and a Registered Clinical Counsellor who has supported youth and adults and their mental health for over a decade. I’m a calm, curious, relaxed person who has been asking the big existential questions of who we are and why we’re here and what to do about that my whole life. I love bringing this curiosity into the counselling space and supporting you to identify how those questions are impacting you. You may be feeling depressed, full of anxiety, working through past and current traumas, or grappling with the difficulties that being alive inevitably brings.

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviours that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioural therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioural change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
