Hello! I’m Max, I’m a counsellor who works from an existential lens. I have a generalist focus, but I specialize in bipolar disorder. Your mental health is important to me, and I want for us to work together to help you experience relief from what’s bothering you and clarity about your life. The way I work is by first teaching coping strategies to help you regulate in the present, then to explore the deeper emotional and existential basis for what brings you to counselling in the first place.

I believe in an individualized, caring and respectful approach when working with clients to become more resilient and effective in their lives. Many people believe that the skills and motivation needed to maneuver all of life’s obstacles are automatically within all of us. But many of us learn ineffective ways of communicating, develop unhealthy patterns or find ourselves stuck with no idea of how to move forward. Having a dedicated time to examine patterns, build skills and develop a deeper understanding of ones’ strengths can help build a greater sense of wellness and clarity in our lives.

Are you going through a transition that feels bigger than you expected? Maybe it's a career change, retirement, a relationship shift, or a period of burnout where your usual ways of coping aren't working anymore. If you're someone who feels deeply and tends to carry the weight of change more than most, these times can feel especially overwhelming.

Are your relationships struggling because of these symptoms? Do you isolate? Mental health symptoms are often overlooked or misdiagnosed. What if you were able to manage these symptoms and achieve your optimum well-being?

It is my life goal to help people overcome adversity and live fulfilling, joyful lives. As a queer woman with lived experience in alternate relationships and familial arrangements, I seek to bring an inclusive, anti-oppressive and social justice lens to my practice. As a yoga instructor and practitioner, I bring a holistic and mindful approach to my work. My primary approach is AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), which emphasizes 'undoing aloneness.' I deeply value the somatic and relational aspects of AEDP that help us to move through overwhelming emotion, stress, or stuckness that happen in our lives.

I think Leonard Cohen explained it best, “There’s a crack, a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets it”. But often when you’re in the middle of a crisis, transition, generally just feeling stuck...it’s hard to see that. It’s hard to imagine that things will get better - that light might make its way in - and it’s even harder to imagine how that might happen. But it can. With the right support, a space where you can truly be yourself, and a little work, you can start to see the light again and even find your way to a more peaceful, joyful life.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with fifteen years of experience in treatment and assessment. Education in both the Arts and Science inform my balanced approach to improving mental health. You might be in the in-between, that uncertain space where something has shifted but nothing has settled yet. If that's where you are, you've found the right place. I support people navigating anxiety, depression, rebuilding life after loss or transition, and more. I especially value working with people who feel caught between worlds—between cultures, identities, expectations, belief systems, or different versions of themselves.

FAQ - About Geriatric Therapy
What can a geriatric psychologist help with?
Geriatric therapists specialise in the cognitive and neurological challenges that often accompany aging, including dementia, memory loss, and age-related cognitive decline. They also address the psychological conditions that frequently co-occur with these issues, such as depression, anxiety, and grief. Geriatric therapists and psychologists are trained to assess cognitive functioning, identify symptoms that may warrant further evaluation, and conduct or refer for formal neurological assessment when needed. In many cases, geriatric therapists also work closely with medical doctors to manage a client's overall health, and they may support caregivers and family members navigating the demands of caring for an aging loved one.

Why might someone seek a geriatric psychologist?
Someone might seek a geriatric therapist when they or a loved one begins experiencing cognitive or neurological changes and is unsure whether those changes are a normal part of aging or something that requires clinical attention. A geriatric therapist can help connect families with appropriate next steps. They are also commonly sought following a new diagnosis, when clients and families are working to understand what that diagnosis means practically and emotionally, and what to expect as a condition progresses. When seeking a therapist, it can be helpful to consider whether a clinician with a stronger psychotherapy focus or one with more of a social work orientation, who can help connect clients with assisted living or medical resources, would be the better fit.

What type of therapy might a geriatric therapists specialise in?
Geriatric therapist often combine psychotherapy with psychoeducation, helping clients and their families understand cognitive and neurological conditions and what to expect as they progress. For clients experiencing anxiety or depression alongside cognitive decline, therapists may draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based approaches. For clients with dementia specifically, therapists may be trained in specialised modalities such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST), which is designed to preserve cognitive functioning.

Can geriatric psychologists help people who suffer from dementia?
Yes, and this is a core area of geriatric psychology. Therapists specialising in dementia can work directly with clients on memory loss and cognitive functioning, while also addressing conditions that commonly co-occur, such as depression and anxiety. They can provide caregivers with objective assessments of a client's functioning and disease progression, and are typically well-versed in community resources available to dementia patients and their families.
