I am passionate about helping individuals and couples who have experienced significant trauma in their lives, including those with complex PTSD, dissociative identity disorder, and borderline personality disorder. I believe that when we experience trauma, we can feel trapped in the past, frozen by the challenge of letting go of the pain, and unable to enjoy the present. So I want to help you process those past hurts so that you can get back to living the life you want. I provide therapy to people of all cultures, faiths, genders, and sexual orientations, valuing each person’s unique experiences.

I work with trauma and abuse survivors who are deeply self-aware yet still feel trapped by unresolved trauma symptoms. You may carry a heavy sense of shame, deep fear of failure, low self-esteem and/or the belief that you’re a burden. Maybe you've done talk therapy before, but it only scratched the surface. You crave something deeper: space to fully process, integrate, and reclaim yourself. This is a soft and nonjudgmental place to land. My work focuses on healing shame, regulating the nervous system, rebuilding self-trust, and reconnecting you with your authentic self.

What if therapy didn’t just help you manage symptoms, but helped you genuinely understand yourself, the why behind your reactions, patterns, and pain? My work is about transformation at that level. You will gain insight that shifts how you think, practical tools that change how you respond, and emotional awareness that reshapes how you relate to yourself and others. The result is real, sustainable growth that continues long after therapy ends. As a long-time Therapist, Registered Counselling Supervisor, and owner of Ginger Henderson Counselling Services, I bring decades of clinical experience to every session.

“Smooth seas don’t make good sailors”--It's a bitter truth-- No One escapes the challenges of Life. "What’s the purpose of therapy?” I believe we are all leaders of our own lives. Whether we choose to believe so or not, we are still leading our lives everyday with the choices and decisions we make. We can either decide to make unconscious decisions, or we can finally learn about ourselves, and take charge by making more conscious decisions that will improve the quality of our lives. Therapy is learning about and then empowering that silent leader within you. "Life is a dance between what we can control and realizing what we cannot"

I support clients managing emotional challenges, BPD traits, NPD, depression, OCD, negative internal dialogue, addiction, grief, trauma, and difficult family dynamics. Together we explore a client's history, experience, emotions, and develop better skills for managing challenges. Often maladaptive coping strategies are no longer serving the client. Developing relational intimacy with others, and more compassionate communication with self is integral to my work with individuals and families. Together we find solutions for healing and moving forward in healthy ways so clients can live more fulfilling lives.

Please contact me directly if you are a Veteran, RCMP member, or CAF member who needs support completing the Medical Questionnaire for Psychological Conditions (PEN6248) for a disability application. I have extensive experience completing these disability assessment forms. The VAC disability application process can be daunting and painful. I always do my best to guide members through this process compassionately, with the precise relevant information gathered and presented, no more and no less. I try to reduce, as much as possible, the pain that can be caused by unnecessarily revisiting difficult and traumatic memories.

In my practice, I work with adults struggling with various issues from anxiety, depression and eating issues, to trauma, grief and relationship difficulties. We all have our own history of experiences, and we tend to react in specific ways under stress. While our response was likely our best option in the past, it may not be adaptive now. I can help you resolve past traumas, learn to accept what is, and move forward from there - developing ways to a fuller and more satisfying life.

No matter what you are struggling with, remember that on the other side of this difficult time will be increased wisdom, the exciting potential of a better you and more of what you want. We all have a survivor inside of us, an innate ability to overcome even the most difficult of challenges. Talking to someone can help you harness the strength that lives inside you. That is the essence of counselling.

Have you spent your entire life trying to get over your childhood? Do you deal with crippling anxiety, PTSD, crushing depression, severe sleep problems, or struggle with ADHD? My professional area of interest, and my expertise, is in helping people deal with the aftermath of trauma. I offer neurofeedback in-office. Neurofeedback reduces or eliminates symptoms that block your ability to live life to the fullest. Severe trauma--residential school survivors and their families, war veterans, those with histories of childhood abuse--may need two to three 20-session blocks.

Connection with others can be both the most important and the most painful aspect of life. You may feel conflicted: yearning for more rewarding relationships while being repeatedly hurt or disappointed by them. Perhaps you have grown tired of making sacrifices in your family or community without seeming to get anything back in return. Chronic disappointment is important to pay attention to, as it can impact mental, physical, and spiritual health. I am an experienced clinician who can help you identify and process thoughts, feelings and body sensations in order to transform them from depletion to vitality.

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
