My approach is psychodynamic and is rooted in attachment theory and family systems, while incorporating CBT , DBT, mindfulness, and EMDR when appropriate.
I am an RCC specializing in treating addiction, trauma, mood disorders, and interpersonal issues. My approach is rooted in the belief that a greater awareness of where our actions and reactions come from can give us the power to change. I work with my clients to understand how their attachment styles and life experiences have informed how they relate to others and to themselves. With this knowledge we work together to address unwanted behaviours and implement new coping skills for emotional regulation and communication.

I have over 20 years’ counselling experience using CBT , emotion regulation, & resilience building.
Vulnerability can make us feel very uncomfortable, but if we view it as a transition, into higher self-esteem/confidence & therefore more life resilience then it is much healthier to forge ahead to find a therapist who can support us. Finding the best fit in seeking a therapist is the most important step in relieving your stress. Many of us struggle with unhappiness, anxiety, depression, suicide ideation, sleep deprivation, separation, divorce, conflict resolution, trauma, relationship, and parenting issues, emotion regulation, communication and assertiveness, boundaries, personal development, caregiver burden and so much more

I provide therapeutic support for children and youth using cognitive behavioral and person centered approaches.
I offer psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessments primarily for children to young adults. I specialize in learning disorders, ADHD, executive function challenges, as well as the impact of complex developmental and neurological issues on learning and behavior. I do not provide diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorders, however I believe that a comprehensive assessment to outline how an individual on the spectrum learns best can be extremely helpful.

At Assemble I offer action-oriented CBT therapy.
Over the past few years our work, schools, homes, families, and daily occupations have been disrupted. As a result, we may feel stressed, overwhelmed, or deeply discouraged. In the absence of the activities we typically 'do', we may have become increasingly vulnerable to unhealthy behaviours and patterns. As an Occupational Therapy I can support you to build awareness of your internal and external challenges, develop new skills and capacities, and reveal new opportunities for growth.

I also have extensive experience in CBT , psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness and trauma-informed practice.
I believe in the capacity of individuals to learn, change and grow. When challenges and difficult circumstances arise, individuals can experience difficulty functioning in day-to-day life. Whether you are struggling with a short-term challenge, or a long-term more complex issue, counselling and psychotherapy can create an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the circumstances you are facing within the safety of the therapeutic relationship.

Psycho-therapeutic interventions like EMDR, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy can support the clients in their healing path and transform their life from a survivor to a thriver.
Psychotherapy is the confidential process where you can get insight from an experienced registered Psychologist in understanding how life-stressors can interfere with your thinking patterns, feelings, beliefs, needs, behaviour and relationships. Prolonged exposure to stress, unhappiness, conflict, trauma, abuse or problematic relationships can lead to anxiety, depression, grief, anger or other behavioural problems. Brain research clearly indicated that early psychological intervention can prevent mental and physical illnesses. Clients now have the opportunity to be proactive and learn the skills on how to protect their mental health, restore their competence and happiness and develop a strong sense of well-being and resiliency.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a specific form of CBT , has proven to be the 'gold standard' evidence-based treatment for OCD.
I have a specific area of practice - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. OCD is considered to be a debilitating, chronic, and sneaky condition. OCD often latches on to what is most sacred and cherished to us. It can cause us to question our morals, values, and beliefs. Much time and energy is then spent trying to gain relief from doubt, uncertainty, and distress. Breaking cycles of Obsessions and Compulsions is key to regaining intention, peace, and freedom.

I tailor my approach to suit the needs of each client, using a custom blend of mindfulness, EMDR and Somatic Therapies, CBT , DBT and resourcing.
Through my own journey of self-discovery, I was drawn to the field of counselling psychology in 2007. Prior to starting in private practice, I spent a decade working in multidisciplinary teams providing mental health, trauma and addictions services, in both residential and outpatient settings. I work with clients to develop the understanding and tools needed to navigate the crisis they are facing and move forward with their lives in a meaningful and more easeful way. I am skilled at helping people build on their innate strengths and resources and to resolve deeper patterns using somatic and EMDR therapy.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario (catastrophizing) or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
