Ever think to yourself "how did I get here?" You feel dread before the day has even begun. On the outside you look like you have it together but on the inside you're a total mess. Stressed out, riddled with anxiety , full of anger or right out depressed. Your emotional walls are so high even you can't see over them anymore. Your mind and body feel completely disconnected. No matter what you do or how you do it, it's never feels good enough. All you want is to get it together and find some inner peace.

Areas of specialization include: - people in 20’s/30’s struggling with anxiety - sexual orientation confusion/curiosity - LGBTQIA+ - sex-workers - cultic/high control/spiritual abuse survivors - those affected by conspiracy theory addiction/engulfment - abusive relationship survivors - sexual trauma survivors.
My primary modality is Internal Family Systems therapy where I incorporate somatic work. Creating a safe, strong, non-dogmatic, container together is the key component of my practice. I am especially skilled at attuning, and providing company in places that you may have previously felt alone. We will work on regulating the nervous system and building resources, while also exploring issues and relationships in our life that feel difficult. Many of my clients are people in their 20s and 30s exploring the transitions and challenges of adulthood while reckoning with Family of Origin trauma.

These post-pandemic times are challenging for us all and our mental health is perhaps more important than ever. I know from my own personal experience, that counselling can make us more aware of our issues and so make possible the kinds of personal changes that we want to see. As a counsellor, my priority is to offer a safe and confidential space where you can talk and be heard, without judgement of any kind. By working together, it is possible to reach a place of less fear, anxiety and sadness making possible a life with more hope, gratitude and yes - happiness.

You desperately want to get control over your own anxiety , in order to help someone else with theirs.
Parenting (or caregiving) is one of the most important jobs you've taken on. But the person you're caring for is going through some tough stuff, and the two of you aren't getting along. You're beating yourself up, because you keep screwing up your job, when all you want to do is help. You might even be coping with your own issues, in addition to helping them with theirs. You're scared of the future, and sometimes angry at the person you are caring for. You're lonely and even burnt out, because others don't understand.

I am an RCC specializing in treating addiction, trauma, mood disorders, and interpersonal issues. My approach is rooted in the belief that a greater awareness of where our actions and reactions come from can give us the power to change. I work with my clients to understand how their attachment styles and life experiences have informed how they relate to others and to themselves. With this knowledge we work together to address unwanted behaviours and implement new coping skills for emotional regulation and communication.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
