Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change.
My goal is to tap into your strengths and provide a space where all aspects of your self feel welcome. I’ll meet you where you are with a grounded approach adapted to your needs. Together, and hopefully with a few laughs, we’ll take on what’s troubling you; I believe shared humor and a sense of relating are crucial for effective therapy.

Many of the people that I work with are dealing with major depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, and overall frustration with the current state of society and the environment.
My practice philosophy is that each person has a natural, infinite inner strength that transforms their pain & supports their physical, mental & spiritual health. Negative life events cause this power to become blocked which leads to dissatisfaction & dis-ease. I support clients to re-connect with this strength.

You desperately want to get control over your own anxiety, in order to help someone else with theirs.
Parenting (or caregiving) is one of the most important jobs you've taken on. But the person you're caring for is going through some tough stuff, and the two of you aren't getting along. You're beating yourself up, because you keep screwing up your job, when all you want to do is help. You might even be coping with your own issues, in addition to helping them with theirs. You're scared of the future, and sometimes angry at the person you are caring for. You're lonely and even burnt out, because others don't understand.

If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or any challenging life circumstances, exploration into the underlying sources as well as present-focused tools to manage these difficulties can help on the path to healing and greater vitality.
I focus on insight through helping you deepen your own understanding and recognition of patterns and beliefs that may be holding you back, and finding new ways forward. This may look like an exploration of early life experiences, examining core beliefs and cognitive frameworks, somatic work, inner child work, exploring emotions, and narrative restructuring.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
