I provide evidence-based assessment and treatment for people with psychiatric disorders, personality issues, adjustment difficulties, and common life problems. I also provide performance enhancement services for athletes, performing artists, employees, and students. Being a kid these days is tough. They are pulled into many directions between family, friends, school, social media, world events, and other stressors. Carrying all this weight can feel overwhelming and lonely. Stress can show up in different ways: difficulties in relationships, avoidance or over-involvement in school and activities, extreme emotions or feeling numb, negative overthinking, unhealthy habits, etc. Young people are doing their best to manage, but sometimes they feel stuck and misunderstood. Watching your child struggle so much can be heartbreaking, especially when you know how much potential your child has.
I take an existential-phenomenological view when working with clients-which means that I seek to be open to whatever issues you bring to our sessions, without judgement or applying my interpretation. Together we enter into a conversation that examines your experiences, emotions, and thoughts, from which you can make decisions that enable you to respond and react to life and its challenges. Issues are treated according to your experiences of them using a variety of techniques. How we go about things is always personalized and always within your control. I work with you to create meaningful and lasting change using a warm, collaborative, and client centered approach to ensure that treatment is tailored to your unique needs. I primarily utilize CBT in my counselling style, but will also pull from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
A large part of the change that takes place due to therapeutic work is the relationship between client and counsellor. I strive to make that relationship a meaningful one based on respect and compassion. I bring with me a wide range of knowledge, skills and education and am happy to continue learning both from and for my clients.
