You may feel stuck in body shame and/or in a cycle with food: eating when stressed, overwhelmed, or exhausted, then feeling guilty or frustrated afterward. Maybe you understand your patterns but still can’t seem to change them. I help adults struggling with emotional or binge eating, anxiety, self-criticism, and disconnection from their bodies. Together, we explore the emotions, nervous system responses, and protective patterns beneath the struggle, while building practical tools for greater ease with food, emotional resilience, and trust in yourself.

Relationships are where we feel most alive and most stuck. Maybe you and your partner keep circling the same argument, or you love each other but can't seem to feel close. Maybe your relationship is less conventional, a structure that doesn't fit the usual script and you want a counsellor who understands and not one you have to explain yourselves to. Or maybe you're doing this work solo, trying to understand why the same patterns keep following you from one relationship to the next. Wherever you're starting, you don't have to untangle it alone.

Discovering the tools to manage these situations and being challenged in the way we think by a therapist who provides a safe space, and who cares about us, is a big part of what often helps people move forward. When in therapy with me we will examine your attachment style, and I will have you critically think about aspects in your life you may have not previously thought about. Do you feel distressed but don't understand why? Have you tried different methods and it only helped a little but never get ahead? Have you ever wondered what the core issue is? Working with me might find you those answers. A lot of people ask who gets counselling, I believe that anyone who experiences stress could get a therapist; however, many have amazing family and friends that allow them to bounce ideas, inspire motivation, and provides insight so counselling really isn't needed. Most people wait till they are in crisis to get help which would mean a rough journey to baseline. Let's be preventative rather than reactionary.

When my daughter was only three months old my husband got suddenly extremely sick, to the point that he almost didn’t make it. Although this marked a challenging moment in our lives, it was also a very transformative time. Once we survived those gruelling months, we decided to change our lives and do more of what we love. It was time for me to do what I always wanted to do in life, to help others find ways to fulfill there lives to the fullest as well as help people transition through difficult circumstances.

You may be insightful, self-aware, and functioning well on the surface, while also feeling emotionally stuck, overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected from yourself. Both can be true. Therapy can help you regain your footing.
I believe therapy should do more than help you cope. It should help you understand the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, reconnect with yourself, and create meaningful shifts in how you experience your life, relationships, and inner world.

I am a queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill, nonbinary settler of South Asian descent living on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. I recently completed my graduate degree in Counselling Psychology after having worked and volunteered in mental health and health care for over a decade combined.
Navigating this world as a multiply-marginalized person has centred my value system on human agency, advocacy, and resilience. I aim to provide care that is centered on helping clients write their own stories of resilience and radical self-acceptance in the face of oppressive systems.

Weight Loss Counsellors
What is the relationship between weight management and mental health?
Mental health can be significantly influenced by one's physical health, so overall improvements in one's quality of life as a result of improved physical functioning from weight loss can have an overall positive impact on an individual's mental health and allow them to engage more readily in everyday activities. In addition, many strategies used to manage weight, such as exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, are also associated with reducing the symptoms of common mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. Individuals may also benefit from the improved self-esteem and self-efficacy that can come with successful weight management.
What is the psychological approach to losing weight?
While there are no specific therapy modalities specifically for weight loss, common psychological therapies can be highly effective in helping clients make lasting lifestyle changes. This may be called the "psychological approach" to weight loss because it does not rely on physical interventions, such as medication or weight loss surgery, to help clients lose weight. Weight loss counselling can be used in addition to or instead of such physical interventions. Some clients simply seek therapy to address the challenges that may accompany weight loss in general, including negative thoughts surrounding their body, disordered eating patterns, or difficulty completing daily tasks as a result of their weight challenges. In such cases, therapists will often utilise behavioural coaching or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to help clients understand how their thoughts may be influencing their diet and physical activity patterns.
What type of therapy is commonly used in weight loss counselling?
Weight loss counseling often involves a combination of therapy and psychoeducation. Common techniques used by weight loss counselors include journalling, thought diaries, and other Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies that encourage clients to consider how their feelings about their weight loss impact their mental health. Weight loss counsellors may also teach clients mindfulness exercises, which can be used by clients during and after eating to be more aware of physical cues from their body surrounding eating. Some clients looking for weight loss therapy may also benefit from group therapy approaches, which utilise the power of social connection and accountability to help clients adhere to their weight loss plan.
Is therapy recommended for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery?
While therapy is not a requirement for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery, many individuals undergoing weight loss surgery may benefit from seeing a counsellor. Prior to surgery, counsellors can help clients decide whether surgical weight loss is a good fit for them and assist in surgery preparation. Post-surgery, counsellors can assist clients with the psychological component of maintaining their weight loss, as well as help clients navigate any postoperative pain. Throughout the surgical process, therapists can help clients process body-image challenges that may come with dramatic changes in weight, as well as manage symptoms of anxiety or depression that may accompany the major life changes bariatric surgery can bring.
