As both a therapist and a researcher, I aim to address the dynamic and lived experiences of those who may be struggling with a history of trauma , sexual distress or intimacy-related concerns. I often work with individuals who present well on the surface, seem completely put together when they want to be, and whose problems are not always apparent to others. While things might appear to be going well on the outside, privately they are hurting. Sometimes the source of distress is clearly known, other times it has yet to be discovered.

I know firsthand that seeking out new supports can be daunting. Sometimes getting ‘curious’ about oneself, and making space for vulnerability, can feel like the last thing we want to engage in. It takes courage and resiliency to live within oppressive social conditions and to heal from individual and collective experiences of trauma . I believe that if our supports are rooted in safety and trust, we might find the space for healing, connecting to more joy, more pleasure, and crafting new worlds.

Currently taking clients / Clients come to me to me with a desire to reclaim parts of themselves that are buried under trauma , anxiety, self-judgement, and perfectionism. They feel as though the fundamental spark at the core of their being is lost, tarnished, and far out of reach. As such, they rightfully long for the fullness of their being and it is a privilege to help them rediscover it.

I have over 10 years proving crisis and trauma support with a trauma -informed, collaborative, and anti-oppressive approach.
Trauma impacts how we see the world, navigate through our experiences, and connect with others. Even though you are not the product of a single experience or relationship, one experience can feel so overwhelming that it overtakes over all others. Together, you can start to dream about what life will look like if this problem or memory wasn't an obstacle anymore. What would be different? And what strengths and resources do you already carry with you to start that process.

I also work extensively with concerns that often co-exist with accumulation of excess belongings: trauma , abuse, anxiety, social isolation, ADHD, OCD, impulsive behaviours, and substance misuse.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of possessions in your home? Do you struggle with letting go of things that you own? Do you sometimes experience conflict with people in your life about keeping too many things? Are you at times fearful or mistrustful of helpers, as you worry that they may force you to discard things that are important to you? I work extensively with what is clinically known as “hoarding disorder”. Some people find the label helpful, while others believe it to be harmful and stigmatizing – understandably so.

I aim to offer you a supportive space to explore your story: past, present, and future. I work with people experiencing discomfort in daily living, whether it be struggling with trauma / PTSD , substance use, disordered eating, religious deconstruction/reshaping, relationship struggles, and emotional discomfort.

I have over twenty years’ experience working with children, youth, adults and families from diverse cultures. I specialise in providing treatment that specifically addresses individual and family needs, strengths, challenges and obstacles. My approach is strength-based, trauma -informed and collaborative. Most problems are caused by many overlapping factors. Therapy usually involves exploring the big picture and developing practical and constructive ways to support well-being and change. Sometimes it is helpful to explore ways in which past experiences and relationships are affecting current experiences and behaviour.

I believe the most important part of my role is to create an environment and relationship that is safe, and therefore, I work from an overarching anti-oppressive, trauma -informed and feminist lens.
There are times when we just don’t feel like ourselves. For some of us, this means feeling overwhelmed by our thoughts and emotions, while for others the disconnect can come from feeling nothing at all. This internal “ickiness” can show up through our emotions, thoughts, or in our body, and is often a scary, confusing, and unsettling experience. This intuitive feeling is typically caused by misalignment; whether it’s having conflict within ourselves, feeling out of step with those close to us, or feeling out of place in the world around us.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
