I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, relationships, and life transitions.
Do you struggle with self-blame, fear of judgment, or saying no? Are you taking on too much responsibility or feeling unproductive? Many of my clients like you feel pressured to meet high expectations and avoid mistakes—not just from perfectionism, but from a fear of letting others down. They may internalize criticism and ruminate on perceived faults or 'failures,' which fuels a cycle of anxiety and self-doubt. For some, this stems from past experiences where expressing needs wasn’t encouraged, or they were told they were 'wrong' for how they felt. You may feel unseen, or not enough, which can drain energy and block self-care.

My work focuses on trauma, complex PTSD, substance use, relationship challenges, grief, depression, anxiety, body image and more.
A large part of the change that takes place due to therapeutic work is the relationship between client and counsellor. I strive to make that relationship a meaningful one based on respect and compassion. I bring with me a wide range of knowledge, skills and education and am happy to continue learning both from and for my clients. I prioritize the safety, dignity and health of my clients in all of our interactions. I consider the work we do together to be a healing space that honors your individual lived experience.

I have over a decade of experience helping people work through a range of concerns including: difficulty in relationships, Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, BPD, C- PTSD, and Bereavement/ Suicide Bereavement.
My training includes psychodynamic, narrative and somatic approaches, CFT, SFT and DBT. I see much of the work I do as connected to development and trauma. A significant part of that work is helping people move towards the life they want, by developing understanding, compassion, and healthy connection to emotions and sense of self.

Art therapy and somatic therapy are intuitive ways to connect to implicit memories and subconscious patterns, especially those related to trauma memories, which are not easily accessible to our cognitive mind through talk therapy.
Hi I am April and thanks for taking an interest in my practice. I worked as a family and youth counsellor at a Vancouver NPO for 7 years while practicing at a multidisciplinary clinic for over 10 years. I provide in-person service in East Vancouver and online service to people around the world in English/Mandarin/Cantonese. I am a registered art therapist and supervised students at a master program level for 2 school years. I am also trained in hypnotherapy and mindfulness based somatic therapy. My experiences as an immigrant growing up in diverse cultures help me to understand people's unique paths and identities.

However, my work is rooted in four main approaches: Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed, Cultural Sensitivity and Somatic Approach.
Are you feeling as if life is moving on autopilot? Do you long to regain a sense of control, reconnect with yourself, and live more fully? If you have a deep desire for self-exploration and healing—one that nurtures self-acceptance, compassion, and playfulness—then I invite you to take this step with me. Maybe you've tried traditional talk therapy and still feel like something is missing. The truth is, healing isn’t just about words—it’s about how we experience life through our bodies and senses. Our stories, emotions, and wounds are stored deep within us, waiting to be seen, expressed, and transformed.

I emphasize the importance of a strong, compassionate therapeutic relationship and work primarily from a trauma informed, client-centered model.
Our feelings hold messages we need to hear. If we ignore them, they keep popping up and create more issues in our relationships, work life, school life, physical health and self esteem. In therapy, we create space to understand and hear what these feelings are telling us as well as develop skills and access insights that make navigating life easier.

Using trauma-informed approaches, I will support your connection to embodiment, mindfulness and grounding.
My practice focuses on the therapeutic power of the arts using self-exploration, creative expression and play. I work with individuals and groups who are experiencing life transitions, challenges, creative blocks or interested in alternatives to talk therapy. I support children and adolescents facing behavioural issues or having difficulty relating to their peers and family. In groups of two or more we explore the richness and challenges of coexistence using alternative and wider forms of dialogue and exploration. I integrate Somatic Experiencing® techniques into my practice.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
