“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you figure out why.” — Mark Twain
Therapy is not about labels or being told what to do. It is about understanding yourself, making meaningful choices, and creating lasting change. I believe people are more than their symptoms, diagnoses, or past experiences. Whether you are facing trauma, addiction, burnout, grief, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, therapy can help you better understand your story, build resilience, and move forward with greater clarity, purpose, and direction.

If anxiety about how you're seen in the world has started running the show, or your relationship with your body feels like something you're surviving instead of living in, you're in the right place.
Much of my work lives at the intersection of body image, anxiety, and self-worth. I'm trained in dismantling weight bias and supporting people navigating appearance-based shame — the particular exhaustion of existing in a body that the world won't stop having opinions about. This work is somatic, creative, and grounded in the understanding that how you feel about yourself didn't start with you.

The fear of making a mistake may be keeping you up at night. Is trying to be perfect causing you to freeze? You look around, and it seems so easy for everyone else that it leaves you feeling there must be something wrong with you. Feeling anxious in new situations or when trying to do our best makes sense, but you have learned to hide these feelings and to show you are confident when, inside, you feel like an imposter. You have worked so hard to get where you are and tried to control and disconnect from this anxiety and self-criticism, but now you know something needs to change. This cycle may be escalating, and I am here to help.

You may be here because something in your life has fallen apart—or because you’re carrying more than you can manage on your own. A relationship may have shifted, anxiety may have taken over, or you may feel defeated, alone, or unsure how to move forward.
When something painful happens, it can bring long-held beliefs to the surface—about who you are, what you can expect from others, or how safe the world feels. Becoming aware of these patterns can open the door to greater clarity and self-understanding. In working with me, I offer a safe, compassionate space to explore these patterns and support meaningful healing and change.

You’re here because something feels unclear. Maybe it’s a career crossroads, a recurring conflict with your partner, or a pattern in your own behaviour. Therapy with me is about building that clarity — not just understanding what’s going on, but what to do about it.
I work with individuals on these questions, and I specialize in couples — especially partners navigating the strain that parenthood puts on a relationship. I’ve seen how repairing that bond ripples outward into the rest of a family’s life.

Life conflicts, trauma, and stress can steer us away from our core; it can also prevent us from living our best lives. Honoring your story and understanding how all of these hardships can impact your everyday life and your choices and life decisions is one of the effective ways to look inside ourselves. It will also provide you with a clear picture of what you are not satisfied with, what makes you stressed, and if your social relationships work for you or not.

Trauma and Stress Therapist. You may look like you are functioning on the outside, but inside you feel exhausted, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself. Many of my clients have already done therapy or personal growth work, yet still feel stuck in patterns of stress, shutdown, self-criticism, or emotional exhaustion. If you are wanting to go deeper into why you feel this struggle to stay on top of things and keep the harsh inner voices from taking over, let’s talk. I often support trauma survivors, therapists, healthcare professionals, and people experiencing compassion fatigue or high levels of emotional load.

Hi, I’m Sandy Kirkwood, the founder of Integrate Counselling. I’m passionate about counselling because I know that with the right therapist at the right moment in your life, it can be both helpful and life changing. I know this because, over the years, I have witnessed so many clients move through their struggles to gain a deeper understanding of who they are and what they truly want. I have gathered this particular team of therapists together because I know how they work with clients. They have been either close colleagues of mine or past supervisees. I have witnessed their warmth, wisdom and effectiveness in working with clients.

Welcome- I am so glad you are here! Throughout our lives, we inevitably face periods of struggle, challenge, and adversity. The pressures of anxiety, the drain from repetitive behaviours, the pain of relationship issues, or the emptiness brought on by depression can make it seem hard to craft the life we aspire to. Yet, I hold a firm belief in your innate ability to overcome these trials, whether they are longstanding or newly felt. In working together, my aim is to form a unique connection with you: one where you can truly be yourself, focusing on where you’ve been, where you are today, and where you hope to be in the future.
